A driver on the run after allegedly killing two boys in a horror crash has a mangled index finger that requires urgent medical attention, security footage shows.Best friends Braydan Collier, 13, and Kaine Bell, 14, were in a gray Ford Falcon sedan that crashed into a tree and a utility pole on Maxwell Avenue in Ashcroft around 10:50 a.m. Monday.The impact was so violent that the vehicle was torn in two. Emergency services found the boys’ bodies scattered on the lawn of a suburban property, about five meters from where the main body of the car came to rest.Police launched an urgent manhunt for two men, the driver and passenger, after CCTV showed them fleeing the scene.Nicholas Thew, 28, and Anthony Morris, 23, were reportedly still on the run as of Tuesday morning.It can now be revealed that a still from CCTV shows a serious injury to Threw’s right hand which would require immediate medical attention.If he seeks treatment, the police could be informed of his whereabouts.A still image appears to show driver Nicholas Thew mutilated the index finger of his right hand – a gruesome injury that requires urgent medical attentionNew South Wales Police refused to comment on the CCTV development.“The police today have extensive resources in connection with the ongoing operation,” said a spokesman.It is also understood Thew was on parole at the time of the crash, having served nine months in prison for domestic violence before being released in June.In September last year, Threw was sentenced in Campbelltown Magistrates Court to a maximum of 13 months in prison for two counts of breaching an order of force upon arrest and one count of resisting arrest.Court records also show Threw appeared in courts in Campbelltown, Orange and Gosford for a range of offenses relating to assault, drug possession, sexual intercourse without consent and several violent arrest warrants.In November 2021, he served a seven-month prison sentence for domestic violence causing bodily harm, armed intent and drug possession.In 2015, he was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for two counts of rape. Only then does his injury become visible.A boy on a dirt bike also inspected the scene before driving off.Braydan Collier had just celebrated his 13th birthday before his life was cut short on Monday14-year-old Kaine Bell also died in the horror accident in Sydney’s southwest on MondayIt comes as Thew’s younger brother Dridyn reveals how the family has taken the teenagers under their wing.“Mom is more worried about the two little boys, she tried to take them under her wing, she took Kaine and Braydan under her wing even though she has problems herself… and now there’s nothing we can do,” Dridyn told the Daily Telegraph on Monday night.“They are small animals that I took under my wing to keep out of trouble, but I haven’t seen them in two days and look where they are now.”Another brother was the one who identified the teenagers’ bodies.A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told Daily Mail Australia he saw the car driving erratically and the passenger acting wildly in the moments before the accident.“About 10 minutes before the accident my family was walking along Busby Road (about 2km from the accident site) and we saw him waving out the window and screaming and acting stupid in the passenger seat,” she said.“They were (allegedly) driving too fast, slipped and used the handbrake.”Deputy Commissioner Brett McFadden, commander of the Traffic and Highway Patrol, said police believe the gray Ford sedan was traveling north on Maxwell Avenue, going at least 50 kilometers per hour over the speed limit on the quiet residential street.He blamed the accident as a “direct result of speeding” and urged the driver and passenger to come forward, adding: “We will find them.”A little later, Thew is seen fleeing the crime sceneA boy on a dirt bike also reportedly inspected the scene before driving offPolice launched a manhunt after witnesses discovered two people had fled the scene“All they need to do is report to the police so that we can contact them and they can assist us in the investigation and find out how this tragic situation unfolded,” he said.“But at the end of the day, in any of these situations, the driver is ultimately responsible for themselves, the passengers and others on the road.”Deputy Commissioner McFadden said the scene traumatized witnesses.“The absolute destruction that took place … and the loss of two young people who were thrown from that vehicle,” McFadden told reporters.“Anyone who witnessed this crash would undoubtedly have been traumatized.”“The car is in two parts – one part is still wrapped around the tree and the other half is on the doorstep,” Helen El-cheikh said on Facebook.Assistant Commissioner McFadden said police do not believe the car was stolen.“We believe the vehicle has a connection to the people in the car,” he said.Helicopter crews and the dog team are searching for the two escaped boys.Anyone with information about the incident or dashcam footage is urged to call police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
