A SPORTS fan has been ticketed for parking outside his home during a sports game, despite it never being a problem before.Jose Lopez, a renter from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, rented a house near LoanDepot Park in Miami to be right in the middle of the action – and spent many afternoons watching the games with his friends on the front lawn.However, as WSVN reported, Lopez was hit with a $47 ticket for parking outside his rented home during a Marlins game – something that has never happened before.Previously, Lopez required local fans to park in front of his home for $10 a pop, where they could enjoy the view and prime parking all in one.“I was cited on the third day on a Saturday. The ticket is $47,” Lopez told WSVN.“Me, my wife’s car and my car, both cars.”The ticket said he was accused of parking there on a game day – but if the stadium is empty, he can park there.“They told me I could park there, but not during games, not on game day. At any other time, but not during game times,” he said.Lopez has a theory as to why he suddenly can’t get a ticket, and it has everything to do with the stadium losing money.“I find [the stadium is] “I gave myself tickets because I make money playing baseball,” he said.” [The stadium thinks] that I take money from them.However, as Lopez began asking more questions, he encountered answers that did nothing to solve the problem.According to the city of Fort Lauderdale, the city owns the space in front of his house, although as a tenant it is his responsibility to maintain the space – otherwise he will get a ticket.“It’s their property, but I have to clean and cut the grass and when it gets tall they give me a ticket,” Lopez said.“They want me to keep the front clean, but they don’t want me to park my cars there when there’s a game on.”A spokesman for the Miami Parking Authority confirmed that ticket sales would only occur during sporting events, largely due to improvements in traffic flow in that part of the city.His parking tickets were waived after WSVN contacted the parking agency, although Lopez is still confused about the logistics.“It’s not right because I take care of the lawn,” he said.“I take care of everything, and that’s not right.”
