(WV News) — A 40-year-old Clarksburg man has been sentenced to over 20 years in prison for drug and gun crimes.Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh sentenced Jesse James Wilson to 188 months in prison for possession with intent distribute 50 or more grams of methamphetamine.The judge then tacked on 60 months for possession of a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.Wilson will be placed on five years’ supervised release once his sentence of incarceration concludes.Defense attorney Belinda Haynie had asked that Wilson be permitted to withdraw his gun charge plea. She cited evolving federal gun precedents. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Cogar, who supervises the Clarksburg office for U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld, successfully argued against Haynie’s motion.The sides had stipulated that on Dec. 8, 2021, in Harrison County, Wilson possessed a 9mm pistol, a 7.62x39 semi-automatic rifle, and a 12-gauge shotgun while committing his drug crime.The indictment also had sought the forfeiture of about $9,000 in cash and the funds in 27 gift or prepaid cards.The Greater Harrison Drug &amp; Violent Crimes Task Force investigated.A 42-year-old Mount Clare man’s trial on a malicious assault charge will be held next week, Harrison Circuit Judge James A. Matish ruled Thursday.Matish denied a state motion for a continuance over the objection of Assistant Prosecutor Gina Renzelli.Renzelli said she wanted more time so that Deputy James McManus II could investigate the possibility that witness tampering had occurred in the case of Eric Michael Cottrill.However, Matish said he didn’t share Renzelli’s concerns that double jeopardy could apply if Cottrill goes on trial prior to the filing of any witness tampering charges. Harrison Defender Susan Morris held the same assessment.Represented by Morris and Assistant Defender Jordan Dishong, Cottrill is accused of setting another male’s hair on fire in early September, 2022.Renzelli also requested the court to call in the Harrison County grand jury prior to Monday’s trial; Matish rejected that request. Renzelli said she had conferred with Prosecutor Rachel Romano about that request. Renzelli also objected to that ruling.Also:— Joseph Anthony Buffey, 41, of Clarksburg, has waived his probable cause hearing before Harrison Magistrate Mike Weiss.That sends to circuit court the four felony charges against Buffey.Buffey is facing a child porn charge, a gun charge and two B&amp;E charges.— Trial for Thomas Andrew Mayle, 51, of Clarksburg, has been postponed from the current term until the week of April 1.Represented by Assistant Defender Jordan Dishong of the Office of Defender Susan Morris, Mayle is facing nine sex-related counts.Mayle has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent.Matish is presiding.— Samuel Joseph Beeson, 27, of Philippi, has been placed on home incarceration for one to three years for leaving the scene of a crash with serious injury.Matish cited Beeson’s lack of criminal history in granting the defendant the alternative sentence.Assistant Prosecutor Renzelli sought the sentence imposed by Matish. Defense attorney Zach Dyer requested probation, but if not, home incarceration.— Garrett Daniel Harvey, 30, of Clarksburg, has been probated for four years for illegal possession of destructive devices, explosive materials or incendiary devices, according to Renzelli.The court ruled Harvey must begin inpatient substance use disorder treatment Friday, and complete it, Renzelli said. Harvey may be required to undergo further treatment as part of the probationary term.— Christopher Jerrard Singleton of Clarksburg has been sentenced to a year of incarceration for felony prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and misdemeanor second offense driving on a license suspended or revoked for DUI.Matish ruled Singleton could self-report Nov. 6.Renzelli had the state’s case.— Linda Kay Hughes, 51, of Salem, has pleaded guilty to breaking and entering and will be sentenced next month by Matish, according to Assistant Prosecutor Andrea Roberts, for Prosecutor Romano.— Kimberly Elizabeth Cook, 40, has pleaded guilty before Matish to breaking and entering and will be sentenced next month by Matish, according to Roberts.— Raymond Allen Conners, 27, of Clarksburg, has been charged with forgery of a public record by Clarksburg Patrol Sgt. E.J. Walker.In June 2021, Conners gave a false identity to Walker while Walker was investigating a trespassing complaint, according to a court filing.Harrison Magistrate Warren “Gizzy” Davis set a $2,500 cash, surety or 10/90 bond.— Iris Ruth Carder, 69, of Salem, has been charged with conspiracy by Trooper A.P. Petrella.Carder is accused of conspiring in a vehicle insurance fraud scheme.Magistrate Davis set a $5,000 signature bond.— Robert Rudolph Gross, 58, of Gypsy, has been charged with felony cultivation of marijuana by Trooper A.N. Alton.Gross grew a marijuana plant in a bucket on his back porch, Alton alleged.Davis set a $5,000 signature bond.— Travis Lee Nichols, 23, of Clarksburg, has been placed on home incarceration for one to 10 years for felony third-offense shoplifting.Chief Assistant Prosecutor Laura Pickens had the state’s case.Harrison Chief Judge Christopher J.
