Hamas threatened Monday to execute Israeli civilian hostages if the attacks in the Gaza Strip continue without warning."We declare that we will respond to any targeting of our people who are safe in their homes without warning, with the execution of our civilian hostages, and we will broadcast it with audio and video," spokesman of the Qassam Brigades, Abu Obeida said. A school's parent's association in Tel Aviv was told to expect videos of hostages "begging for their lives,' according to CNN. A message to parents asked them to specifically remove the TikTok app. Israel said that Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza are holding more than 150 soldiers and civilians hostage. Videos reviewed by The Washington Post show at least four Israeli citizens taken hostage being killed shortly after being captured. One video, filmed just hours after the invasion began Saturday, allegedly shows several civilians being led by Hamas terrorists carrying weapons. The civilians also had their hands tied behind their backs.The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) called for the safe release of hostages in a statement Tuesday. "Killing civilians and ill-treatment are prohibited by the Geneva Conventions. In addition, the Conventions demand that the wounded and sick are cared for," President Mirjana Spoljaric said. "People detained must be treated humanely and with dignity. Hostage-taking is prohibited under international humanitarian law and hostages should be immediately released unharmed." Biden Monday in a statement that while they are still working to confirm there are American hostages, it is likely they are among those being held by Hamas. "I have directed my team to work with their Israeli counterparts on every aspect of the hostage crisis, including sharing intelligence and deploying experts from across the United States government to consult with and advise Israeli counterparts on hostage recovery efforts," he added. National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said the U.S. does not know how many Americans are hostages. The war — which began after Hamas terrorists invaded Israel on Saturday — has already claimed nearly 1,800 lives on both sides.
