Diane Foley, founder of the James W. Foley Foundation, has been advocating for U.S. nationals held hostage abroad since 2014. With Hamas taking in civilian hostages, Foley said she was devastated to hear about the dangerous series of events that are unfolding overseas. "The brutality of the attack and direct attacks on innocent civilians, children, elderly... it's just appalling," said Foley. Currently, officials are working to find out if any U.S. citizens are being held hostage by members of Hamas. Foley said she's expecting officials to act swiftly in this dire time."Speed is important. You know, the need to act quickly. And our current hostage enterprise is getting better at that. So, I'm very hopeful that should that be the case, that they'll be on it as quick as possible," said Foley. President Joe Biden said he's directed his team to work with Israel on the hostage recovery process, including sharing intelligence. The Seacoast Jewish Community Center in Newington is inviting everyone in the community to attend a vigil and solidarity gathering for Israel. The event is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
