BUT BY 2025, WE GOT THIS TOURNAMENT FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER 25 YEARS REPORTING LIVE, BRIAN HAMRICAdvertisement'Your wonderful tournament is staying': Western &amp; Southern Open remaining in CincinnatiThe Western &amp; Southern Open is staying in Mason, as the city successfully fended off a bid from Charlotte, North Carolina that would have seen the tournament head to the Tar Heel State for 2025 and beyond.The tournament, which has been played in Cincinnati since 1899, posted the news to social media Tuesday morning.The video stars Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic, the two individual winners of this past year's tournament."Your wonderful tournament is staying in Cincinnati," Djokovic says.In the video, the tournament says over $200 million in investments are coming to the Linder Family Tennis Center and, come 2025, the tournament will expand to two weeks of competition for both men and women.Warren County commissioner Dave Young tells WLWT that $50 million is coming from the state, $50 million is coming from the county and $30 million is coming from Mason.Earlier this summer, both Mason and Charlotte city officials pledged millions of dollars in facility upgrades for the tournament. In this year's state budget, $22.5 million in funding was secured after the funding was proposed by Lebanon State Representative Adam Matthews (R).Nearly $100 million was approved for a new development in the Charlotte area if the tournament were to move. Back in June, Young said the battle between Mason and Charlotte was "highly competitive," but added that "I like our odds," when it came to the tournament staying in the Queen City.
