This is a long, thoughtful essay on - at its most essential - the advocacy of academic freedom and the independence of the intellectual class. Not at all a poor topic of choice, and certainly it is relevant in today's environment. Nevertheless, it has a bit too much navel-gazing for my taste. Good information, and rather eloquent writing, if you're the patient sort.
