The article provides a lot of good context on the rumors flying around and the financial relationship between the two parties, but it is still a mostly speculative story and should be treated as such.

This article is all sourced from Forbes magazine reports. It is up to the reader to decide how much they trust Forbe's judgement about Schmidt's personal life, but there doesn't seem to be an apparent reason to not believe them. Although there was little potential for corroboration with the story (unless they talked to Schmidt himself), this article gave a fair assessment of the situation. It is more of drama, than news, however.
