This is a very interested story and it highlights the ways that strict laws against evictions, permitting processes, and short term rentals actually create legal loopholes for people to exploit and live rent free. I hope California starts to take property rights more seriously and give landlords more control over what work they do to their property, how they try to generate revenue from the property, and their authority to decide who can stay and who must go.
