Komodo National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Indonesia. It is home to the famous Komodo dragons, which is why many refer to the island as the Komodo dragons island, as well as a variety of other wildlife and natural wonders. We visited the island as part of our trip to Flores Island, one of the several islands we visited during our 3-month Indonesia trip.Based on our experience, here are some tips for visiting the park and what you can expect to see during your trip:The main attraction of Komodo National Park is the Komodo dragons ((Varanus komodoensis), which are the largest lizards in the world and can grow up to 3 meters in length. You can take a guided tour of the park and visit the dragons in their natural habitat, either on Rinca Island or Komodo Island.Komodo National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to its unique wildlife and fascinating landscape. The park is actually comprised of 29 islands, the three larger islands Komodo,&nbsp;Padar&nbsp;and&nbsp;Rinca.See below some images of Komodo dragons we took during our trip.Watchful DragonWe had many questions when we visited the park, and we tried to learn as much as we could be Komodo dragons.Thinking about its next lunch?Adult and Juvenile Komodo DragonsA picture of a Komodo dragon by the visitor centerIn addition to visiting the dragons, there are a number of other activities you can enjoy during your visit to Komodo National Park.In addition to the dragons, the park is home to a variety of other wildlife, including buffalo, deer, pigs, and a number of bird species.BuffaloCrab-eating macaqueThey are two hiking trails in the park, and hiking Komodo Island is a great way to explore the island and a chance to see the dragons hunting or simply wandering their natural habitat.Hiking in Komodo National ParkKomodo Island Map Showing the Hiking TrailsKomodo Island LandscapeThe pink colors are incredible, though it must be a sunny day for them to be really striking.These include snorkeling or diving in Komodo crystal-clear waters, which are home to various colorful marine life. The best time to dive Komodo is November through March.Komodo is considered one of Indonesia’s top diving spots, along with diving in Papua Raja Ampat. The strong currents mean the sites are best reserved for experienced divers, but those are in for a treat: expect manta rays, reef sharks, and shallow coral gardens.You can also take a boat ride around the park and visit some of the smaller islands or relax on one of the beautiful beaches and soak up the sun.Sailing around Komodo IslandThe best way to visit Komodo National Park is to arrange a tour through a local tour operator. There are a number of options available, ranging from day trips to multi-day tours that include accommodation on one of the nearby islands. You can also visit the park independently, but it is recommended to hire a local guide to ensure your safety and to help you make the most of your visit.Visitor CenterKomodo is off Flores Island Indonesia, which is a great departure point for any Komodo tour.There is no&nbsp;airport Komodo per se, and people will arrange flights from Bali to Komodo via Flores Island.You can also book a Bali to Komodo Island tour or join a Bali Komodo cruise.Overall, a visit to Komodo National Park is a truly unforgettable experience.
