Trujillo appeared in Island County Superior Court Monday. Judge Carolyn Cliff said there is probable cause to believe the 27-year-old Oak Harbor resident committed assault in the second degree, a domestic violence crime.Cliff set Trujillo’s bail at $15,000.Just before noon on Oct. 1, police were called to a report of an assault at a home in the southwest area of the city. A witness described a chaotic scene that began when the 48-year-old victim became upset after he couldn’t find the “garage scissors” and started yelling.Trujillo went to see what was happening and encountered the victim in the hallway. The older man later told police that Trujillo struck him first; the man told police he didn’t realize he had been stabbed until a child in the home saw the blood and got upset, the police report states.Trujillo allegedly admitted to stabbing his stepfather with a pocket knife, but claimed it was self defense, the report states.The victim sustained a wound near his groin. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.In July 2017, an Oak Harbor police officer shot Trujillo in the arm with a rifle. Police had responded to a report that a man, later identified as Trujillo, was holding a woman at gunpoint in the area of Hal Ramaley Memorial Park on Bayshore Drive.Trujillo was waving around a gun — which turned out to be a BB pistol — and pointing it at the abducted woman, whom he didn’t know. He was shouting about God and the devil and speaking about cleansing evil from the woman.The Skagit County Multi-Agency Response Team investigated the incident and the prosecutor concluded that the shooting was clearly justified. Trujillo sustained an arm injury and had to have surgery, but appeared in court not long afterward on a kidnapping charge.Trujillo ended up pleading guilty to kidnapping in the first degree in September 2017 and was sentenced to five years and six months in prison.Sign UpNewsPlease ensure Javascript is enabled for purposes of website accessibility
