(AP) — Alternative Baseball, a nonprofit that provides physical and social enrichment for teens and adults with disabilities, is teaming up with the Macon Bacon for a Community Celebrity Classic at Luther Williams Field at 1:00 on Saturday afternoon.The event is free and open to the public and will feature players with disabilities from Alternative Baseball and others known throughout the Middle Georgia area in a 7-inning baseball exhibition to promote awareness, acceptance, and community integration for those with disabilities throughout and beyond baseball.Alternative Baseball is different than similar adaptive programming in that it caters to a different segment of the disability spectrum and supplements what already exists in the community by adding another option.The Community Celebrity Classic was first curated in 2018 in Paulding County, where community leaders put differences aside and came together for an exhibition game to promote the idea that those with disabilities can achieve when given the opportunities to try in society. Alternative Baseball is now looking to replicate that success throughout Middle Georgia."We aren't just giving athletic opportunities," said Founder and Chief FUN Officer of Alternative Baseball Taylor Duncan, "we are giving the opportunity for those with disabilities to become empowered to tackle and exceed nearly any other obstacle and challenge that life presents itself."Alternative Baseball programs can be found in 12 states across the country.
