Christopher Griffiths. His family calls him Chris.Justice Griffiths was nominated by Governor John Carney, who said he relied heavily on the recommendation of the Judicial Nominating Commission. The nomination was confirmed by the Delaware State Senate."Outside of all of his accomplishments, Justice Griffiths comes from a strong legacy of public service," Carney said.Justice Griffiths, the son of former Wilmington City Councilman Norman Griffiths, was educated at the University of Delaware and earned a law degree from Villanova University School of Law. He became partner at Connolly Gallagher LLP. His practice there focused on administrative and government law, corporate and commercial litigation, bankruptcy law and general litigation. He represented municipalities and government agencies.Griffiths is the first Black man to serve on the Supreme Court, and the second African-American ever."It serves as a reminder that our legal system, the foundation of our democracy, is working hard to become more diverse, inclusive and reflective of the people we serve," Chief Justice Seitz said.Griffiths thanked many colleagues, family members, mentors, elected officials and the Chief Justice."It is an absolute honor and privilege to sit here with all of you today," Justice Griffiths said.Justice Griffiths also served on the Delaware Supreme Court Rules Committee, the Delaware Supreme Court Lawyers' Fund for Client Protection, and the Delaware State Bar Association Nominating Committee.
