I WAS WASHING DISHES, SO I SAW HIM OUT OF MY WINDOW IN BETWEEN MY HOUSE AND MY NEIGHBOR’S HOUSE. URBAN, IMMEDIATELY SUSPICIOUS, CONFRONTED THAT PERSON. I ASKED HIM WHAT HE WAS DOING, AND HE SAID HE WAS WATCHING PEOPLE RUN BY, BUT HE WAS CLEARLY LIKE IN OUR BACKYARD. HE SAYS THAT PERSON IS THE SAME INDIVIDUAL IN THESE SURVEILLANCE PHOTOS RELEASED BY SOMERVILLE PD TODAY IN CONNECTION WITH THREE RECENT BREAK INS AROUND POWDERHOUSE SQUARE NEAR TUFTS UNIVERSITY. OBVIOUSLY VERY UNSETTLING. DEFINITELY LOCKING OUR DOORS WAY MORE. POLICE SAY THE SUSPECT HAS BEEN ENTERING HOMES THROUGH UNLOCKED DOORS BETWEEN MIDNIGHT AND 830 IN THE MORNING. IT’S SCARY. LIKE WE’RE GLAD THAT WE JUST GOT LIKE THE THE VIDEO DOORBELL AND WE KIND OF LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD HELPING KEEP EACH OTHER SAFE HAS BECOME A TOP PRIORITY FOR THOSE WHO LIVE HERE. ONE PERSON DOWN IN ONE OF THOSE HOUSES MADE A GROUP CHAT AND ADDED 1 OR 2 PEOPLE FROM EVERY HOUSE, AND PEOPLE HAVE JUST BEEN TEXTING EACH OTHER AND LIKE KEEPING EACH OTHER ON THE LOOKOUT AND SENDING PICTURES AND UPDATES AND EVERYTHING, WHICH HAS BEEN HELPFUL. A SENSE OF COMFORT DURING A FRIGHTENING TIME AS POLICE CONTINUE TO SEARCH FOR THE PERSON IN THESE PHOTOS. I’M HOPING THAT THEY FIGURE OUT WHO IT IS AND CATCH HIM, BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY WE WANT TO KEEP THE NEIGHBORHOOD SAFE. NEIGHBORS TELL ME THEY HAVE SEEN EXTRA POLICE PRESENCE IN THIS AREA. "The unknown individual has been observed in homes between 12 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. by entering unlocked doors," police said. Resident Shay Urban had a close encounter with the person of interest."I was washing dishes, so I saw him out of my window in between my house and my neighbor's house," Urban said. "I asked him what he was doing. He gave me an excuse that didn't make sense to me. He said he was watching people run by but he was clearly in our backyard." Another neighbor, Lily Bienstock, said the incidents have caused the neighborhood to band together. They've been swapping text messages and pictures. "I'm hoping that they figure out who it is and catch him because, obviously, we want to keep the neighborhood safe," Bienstock said. Anyone with information is being asked to call the Somerville Police Criminal Investigation Department at 617-625-1600, extension 7226."Residents are urged to lock all doors and windows overnight, particularly those on ground level.
