AND BEFORE I COULD TURN AROUND TO SEE WHAT IT WAS, I FELT PEACE PLUNGING INTO MY BACK. THE FOX CAME UP RIGHT THROUGH THE OPENING, RIGHT THERE IN THE CHAIR AND BETTER. WE NEVER SAW IT COMING. OFFICIALS SAY THE AGGRESSIVE FOX ALSO BIT A POSTAL WORKER AND MANAGED TO GET INTO THE POST OFFICE THROUGH AN AUTOMATIC DOOR AS IT FOLLOWED OTHER WORKERS. IT WAS CAPTURED INSIDE, BUT NOT BEFORE BITING AT LEAST FOUR PEOPLE IN TOWN. IT WAS PAINFUL, EVEN NOW, IF I IF I DO THAT, IT MY MUSCLES, YOU KNOW, IT’S LIKE HE BIT RIGHT INTO MY MUSCLE. He said usually foxes would be shying away from humans, but this one was seen around the city, with the final call coming from the postmaster of the Rochester Post Office after the fox made its way inside the back gate.“The fox had made a negative interaction with a postal worker,” Jones said. That mail carrier was bitten and a group of employees outside tried to get away by going inside, only for the fox to follow them as it entered the building through automatic doors.The fox was euthanized and taken to the Department of Health and Human Services to be tested for rabies.Jones said they get a lot of calls this time of year regarding animals acting strange. Warning signs could be the animal is lethargic and walking unbalanced, but he said usually they are not aggressive like in this case.Rabies is fatal to humans, so anyone who may have come in contact with the fox should call their doctor for the next steps and to determine if a rabies shot is needed.“It could be a matter of weeks before symptoms start showing, but once they start showing, it's a little bit too late,” Jones said.
