Since there are so many conversations going on on WhatsApp, we want to help people around the world access this emerging technology.”With these words, Meta presented three new services, based on AI, which “represent the first steps of what will be a long path of experimentation”.AI stickers: Create a custom sticker that best represents what the user is thinking or feeling in the chat. This feature uses Llama 2 technology and the generative Emu model to transform a text message into “unique, high-quality stickers” in just a few seconds. This new feature, initially in English, will be available on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and Facebook Stories.AI Chat: With Meta’s AI chats you can ask any kind of question to find out more about various topics or try to resolve a debate in your group chat, such as receiving the opinions of dozens of characters created by Meta (over 28 profiles inspired by cultural icons and influencers) who express their point of view. The chats made with the AI will be visually different, so that it is clear that they are not personal messages or conversations, and you will need to take specific actions to start the conversation, such as opening a chat or sending a message to the AI. The chat can never be started from Meta or WhatsApp.Photorealistic image generation: By typing the prompt/image, AI allows you to generate images to represent an idea, a place or a person.Regarding AI chats, Meta reminds that computers that support generative AI “have the ability to remember everything”, and therefore recommends “not sending messages that you do not want to divulge”. Despite this, Meta says, AI is trained to limit the possibility of information about people, such as names, being mentioned in other chats.Starting today, some users can already start testing these features in their chats. In the coming weeks, access to AI features will be gradually expanded to a wider audience. As usual, Meta points out that all personal messages exchanged on Whatsapp are protected by end-to-end encryption, therefore inaccessible.Meta also announced that it is working with partners to help companies improve the quality and speed of the services they offer people through AI.
