We confirm that it is not a mistake: the card will belong to the RTX 30 series, which debuted for the first time on the market even more than three years ago and now surpassed by the RTX 40 family.The first RTX 3050 arrived on the market at the beginning of 2022: always based on Ampere GPUs like the rest of the RTX 30, it was equipped with 8 GB of RAM. For some reason, although it had been rumored several times, NVIDIA has never released an RTX 4050, at least for desktop systems: the range starts from the RTX 4060.The specifications of the new RTX 3050 6 GB seem to have further downgrades in addition to the most macroscopic detail, namely the 2 GB of RAM less. We list the details below highlighting any differences compared to the RTX 3050 8 GB:GPU: GA107-325-KxPCB: PG173 SKU 16Operating frequency: 1,470 MHz (-17%)Memory bus: 96-bit (-32-bit)TGP: 70 W (-45 W)Due to the extremely low power consumption, it is expected that the board will not require auxiliary power connectors. For now there is no information on the number of cores but at this point it is reasonable to expect a drop here too.It is difficult, as we said, to understand the meaning of the existence of this card; the most plausible hypothesis is that NVIDIA has GA107 chips left in stock and that this is the solution to get rid of them. The board is expected to go into production in January 2024, with a release in the months immediately following. Really hard to imagine at what price it could be sold.
