Late last year the Marvel actor discovered the devastating health concern while filming his National Geographic and Disney+ docuseries, Limitless. Chris is "eight to 10 times more likely" to battle the progressive disease than the general population as he is one of only two to three percent of people globally who have two copies of the gene APOE4. The 39-year-old was thought to be "slowing down" on his career, with insiders claiming that he "doesn't plan on taking on many roles" after learning more about his health, according to Page Six. While Chris has previously said he is not planning to retire, the source told the publication that "it looks a whole lot like he's heading in that direction". "I’ve always been pretty consistent with my exercise commitments, but lately I’ve really felt the importance of taking time for yourself without any outside voice or stimulation and making time for stillness,” the Australian actor told Men’s Health. He added that he's been prioritizing sleep, taking regular ice baths, and shifting his focus to work on mindfulness. “My weight fluctuates a lot due to differing roles and also my own interests in regards to challenging my body in different ways," Chris said. “I’m lifting less frequently than I was and I’m incorporating more cardio and endurance workouts which I much prefer than heavy body-building style sessions.” In November 2022, Chris shared how his health update has impacted how much time he wants to spend with his loved ones. He told Vanity Fair: "Doing an episode on death and facing your own mortality made me go, 'Oh God, I'm not ready to go yet'."I want to sit and be in this space with a greater sense of stillness and gratitude. And then you start talking about kids and family." Chris went on to explain how doing the show "really triggered something in me", prompting him to take an unforced break from the limelight. He said he has scheduled "a good chunk of time off" to enjoy with his wife Elsa Pataky and their three kids, India, 10, and twins Sasha and Tristan, eight.
