With just five simple ingredients and about 30 minutes of time, you can enjoy this frozen treat!What I love about making my own ice cream is that I know exactly what’s in it. No artificial sweeteners or colors. Not high fructose corn syrup or excessive sweeteners. Just natural fresh ingredients that we can get here on the farm.I know not everyone has the opportunity to keep a cow or chickens. If you don’t have your own, do your best to source these ingredients locally. Ask around and I bet you could find someone with a milk cow or their own flock of chickens. Buy your milk and eggs from them or check out your local farmers market!This really couldn’t be simpler. The most tedious part is cracking and separating the eggs. Save the egg whites to make an angel food cake or meringue cookies. Or you can just add some to your scrambled eggs in the morning to get some additional protein!First, make sure your freezer bowl for your ice cream maker is frozen. Next using a blender or stand mixer thoroughly mix all the ingredients until the cocoa powder is fully incorporated.Next, pour the batter into the frozen bowl of the ice cream maker and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for making ice cream.You actually can. I used to use this method back when I was a young mom and we had no extra money. Simply put the blended milk and cream mixture in a shallow baking dish. Place it in the freezer and stir it scraping down the sides every 30 minutes or so for the first few hours. Then let it firm up in the freezer for about 8 hours.Good question! I wish I had the money and space for a professional soft-serve machine in our home! Wouldn’t that be something? In lieu of that, I have chosen a countertop ice cream maker. The answer is to have an extra freezer bowl, that way you can make a batch and then quickly make another one. It only takes 15-25 minutes to make!
