These films will be showcased at the New Bijou Theater on Tuesday, Oct. 17, offering a poignant look into the lives of those who served and the families who stood by them."BRAVO! Common Men Uncommon Valor" is the first documentary on the docket. Drawing on interviews with 15 veterans from Ken's Bravo Company who endured the siege in trenches and bunkers, the film sheds light on the harrowing experiences faced by these men. However, it transcends their specific stories to honor the collective service of all Vietnam veterans.The documentary achieved critical acclaim winning the Best Feature Documentary award at the 2015 GI Film Festival in San Diego and the Major Norman Hatch Award for Best Feature Documentary from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. It has been screened at prestigious venues such as the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, the US Coast Guard Station in Kodiak, Alaska, and the Basic School in Quantico, Virginia, where all newly commissioned Marine Corps officers receive their foundational training."I Married the War," is a poignant documentary that provides a compelling voice to the wives of combat veterans, spanning from World War II to the ongoing Middle East conflicts, shedding light on the profound challenges these resilient women confront. They eagerly welcomed their husbands home from the battlefield, only to discover that the enduring effects of war, including post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, substance abuse, survivor's guilt, and physical injuries, continued to shape their lives and relationships in unexpected and profound ways.The documentary features candid interviews with eleven wives who share their struggles, offering viewers insight into the profound impact of war on families and the isolation felt by spouses dealing with their own form of traumatic stress. "I Married the War" aims to remind viewers that they are not alone in their experiences.Both documentaries will be screened at the New Bijou Theater, located at 1st Street SE in Beach. "I Married the War" kicks off the evening at 4 p.m., while "BRAVO! Common Men Uncommon Valor" follows at 7 p.m.The event includes a Q&amp;A session with the filmmakers, providing an opportunity for the audience to delve deeper into the stories and experiences shared on screen.Admission to each show is just $5, thanks to the generous support of the Harley Salzman American Legion Post #5 in Beach, which is covering the cost for moviegoers.
