Religious Bias

I'm surprised nobody has pointed out (like they are quick to on other articles), that almost all the sources are from other media organisations, and even the genuine statistics towards the end are worst-case scenario projections from the UN, which haven't come to pass. I think there's a lot of hype around this topic due to China's rounding up and imprisonment of Uyghur Muslims, but the situation in India is extremely different and to try and conflate the two issues for a Western audience is highly misleading. The title literally says "India’s massive, scary new detention camps", yet there are zero detention camps or even plans for any, that's pure clickbait... I'm honestly surprised so many people are falling for it here. You may not agree with the way they enforce immigration laws in India, however they are doing illegal under international or domestic law and nothing that almost all western countries don't do... All you need to do to not be detained even if you have illegally immigrated into India is provide your registered address and be willing to hand over your biometric data (something everyone including Westerners have to do when they arrive at the border anyway), that's for more lenient than any almost every other country on the planet. Really please check the facts, don't just cite an article as credible because you like the source and the agenda it pushes.

Great Context

This article provides great context for the situation in India regarding the NRC. However, I lament that this is so one sided in presenting information, and has no sources. If there was a scholarly source and some commentary from the opposite side of the issue, I would give it higher marks.

This is a strong investigative look at what might become an enormous humanitarian issue. I'm glad this story is being covered because as the author mentioned, the story is going underreported by most corporate media outlets. With that said, this article was pretty one-sided and didn't seem to go far enough to get comments from the Indian government officials involved.
