(Curtis Ray Benally/Turkeyboy Photography)Curtis Ray BenallyFARMINGTON - The regular season in high school soccer is headed into the homestretch with district rivalries leading to some dramatic results.Here’s a recap of some of the top prep girls and boys soccer matches from this week.Boys SoccerKirtland Central pulls clear to top AztecSenior Easten Warner earned a hat trick as the Kirtland Central High School boys soccer team scored an important 5-2 district win over Aztec Thursday night on the road at Fred Cook Memorial Stadium.Warner, one of the leading scorers for the Broncos this season with a dozen goals, led the Broncos to the win while sophomore Angel Acosta scored a pair of goals to help improve the team’s record to 5-9 overall (2-1 District 1-4A) on the season.“We played most of the match with only 10 players after one of the boys got red-carded in the first half,” said Kirtland Central head coach Silverio Martinez. “Our defense adjusted and we were able to score again to put the game out of reach.”The Broncos will be on the road Tuesday night to face Bloomfield while Aztec, which falls to 1-12 overall this season, will be looking for its first district win when they play host to Gallup on Tuesday night.Miyamura edges Bloomfield in overtimeThe Bloomfield High School boys soccer team nearly pulled off a dramatic comeback, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to tie their match on the road Thursday night at Miyamura before losing the match 3-2 in overtime.With the win, the Patriots improve to 4-0 in District 1-4A play this season and 12-3-1 overall. Miyamura is currently ranked 16th in the state at Class 4A according to MaxPreps.Bloomfield trailed 2-0 at the break before scoring a pair of goals in the second half thanks to Trayce Estrada, who scored twice. Estrada was assisted by Lee Wells and Cameron Ford as the Bobcats evened the match before overtime.The loss drops Bloomfield’s record on the season to 6-8 overall (2-1 District 1-4A) ahead of a Tuesday night showdown at home against Kirtland Central.“It stings to lose like that,” said Bloomfield head coach Scott Reid. “The beauty of district soccer is that you get to play everyone twice. We still feel very confident about our chances.”Girls SoccerAztec slips past Kirtland CentralThe Aztec High School girls soccer team earned a hard-fought victory on the road Thursday night, beating Kirtland Central by a score of 1-0.The victory improves the team’s record to 5-3-3 on the season and 2-1 in District 1-4A competition. The loss snaps a three-game win streak for Kirtland Central and drops the team’s record to 9-5 overall (3-1 District).“We just couldn’t get things to connect for us,” said Kirtland Central head coach Kiera Smith. “We had moments we didn’t capitalize on, and Aztec played a great game and moved the ball beautifully.”Aztec will be on the road Tuesday night to face Gallup while Kirtland Central will look to bounce back on Tuesday afternoon when they host Bloomfield.Bloomfield edges Miyamura with second half deciderSophomore Evani Velasquez scored the only goal of the night as the Bloomfield High School girls soccer team earned its seventh straight win and remains perfect in district play with a 1-0 win at home Thursday night over Miyamura.The Bobcats (9-3 overall and 4-0 District 1-4A) haven’t lost since 5-0 shutout last month against Piedra Vista.
