Marks and SpencerBusinessSwindonShareThe future of Swindon town centre’s Marks &amp; Spencer store is hanging in the balance as the company continues to consult staff over a possible closure.M&amp;S told staff on August 15 that&nbsp;discussions regarding the Regent Street store’s closure had started.The department store chain was unclear on whether there would be redundancies at the two-floor shop in the town centre.In a statement at the time, M&amp;S said: “We appreciate that this will be disappointing news for some."Our priority now is to talk to our colleagues about what this announcement means for them and wherever possible, offer them alternative roles with M&amp;S".Almost two months later,&nbsp;the future still looks bleak for the store and its employees with no change to the plan so far.When asked by the Adver about the latest scenario, a spokesperson for M&amp;S said: “I’m afraid we don’t have a further update at this stage as consultation with colleagues is being completed.”The possibility of the popular shop closing on the High Street left Swindon shoppers angered and fearing what was next.Jenny Ash from Shrivenham pops in-store weekly to have a look around and buys items often."We go there every Wednesday to have a look at the clothes and get a coffee, it's something we look forward to,” she said."It's disgusting that they're closing. Wilko is&nbsp;going next, we've already lost BHS and Debenhams, which were always well-attended.“There will be nothing here soon.”"My shoes and top are from M&amp;S.
