Skip to main contentYou are the owner of this article.Edit ArticleAdd New ArticleYou have permission to edit this article.EditHomePublicationsNewsSportsCalendarReaders' ChoicePodcastsObituariesClassifiedsJobsSubscribeTo Executive Director Brittnea Ussery, one of the most rewarding things about working with the Plano ISD Education Foundation is that special day where teachers receive their grants for classroom innovation.For the last 30 years, the Plano ISD Education Foundation has worked to support Plano educators, alongside the district, and bridge the gap between the business and education community.Bringing in around $1.5 million each year to support over 20 district programs that are unable to receive funding through the district’s budget, the foundation plays a large role in keeping Plano ISD innovative.“Our focus is being that arm that reaches out to the community to help provide the district with any resources or funding they may need that doesn't come through a traditional school district,” Ussery said.With Plano ISD’s new Robinson Fine Arts Center, the foundation plans to add a new endowment of $3 million to support student programs at the new facility.“We get to be that community connector for the district,” Ussery said. “We have a lot of people we're working with on campus who work hard for our families.”In addition to fundraising and delivering grants and endowments to teachers, the foundation connects students with businesses to show them how large corporations, like Toyota, tackle issues like project management and working as a team.“We're also very lucky to have so many corporations headquartered in Plano for us to partner with,” Ussery said.Through fundraising, donations and volunteer opportunities, the foundation is always in need of support, Ussery said.One area where the foundation needs volunteers is its Core Store, where teachers can shop for free school supplies, donated by community members.“We're trying to cut down on the dollars they have to spend out of their own pocket,” Ussery said. “We always need people who can either donate school supplies or volunteer to help run the core store with us.
