ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A man has been given a $2 million bond and is accused of assaulting two deputies in an incident where one of the deputies was dragged 60 feet and knocked unconscious in Rowan County.There was a heavy law enforcement presence in Rowan County Tuesday morning, shutting down at least one road. Bringle Ferry Road was closed near Panther Creek Road. This was in eastern Rowan County, near High Rock between Richfield and Gold Hill.Around 9 a.m., officials assisted the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office in a chase which ended in the area of Stokes Ferry Road and Ribelin Road.While deputies were in that general area conducting traffic control, they say an individual came out of his home on Bringle Ferry Road and began behaving erratically. This drew the attention of two deputies who believed this person might be having mental issues or was impaired.The person, later identified as 29-year-old Stavros Evangelos Feredinos, drove down his driveway in a silver Volkswagen to a mailbox.Officials say Feredinos got out of the vehicle and began singing, making hand gestures towards the two deputies and then dropped his pants, displaying his buttocks. He then went back to his vehicle and began backing up the driveway before the deputies stopped him out of concern for his safety.When questioned by deputies about his actions, officials say Feredinos complained that he had been stuck in the house for 30 days due to the pandemic and apologized for his behavior.The deputies attempted to get information from Feredinos to call a family member about the incident, but were unsuccessful.Officials say Feredinos made repeated attempts to get back into the Volkswagen to retrieve an item, which led to a physical confrontation with the two deputies. The deputies tased him to get him under control, but were unsuccessful.Feredinos was able to get into the driver’s seat of the Volkswagen, with the two deputies stuck between the open driver’s door and the driver’s seat. He then reportedly began backing up his vehicle toward his house.One of the deputies was dragged approximately 60 feet on his back and his head hit the driveway, knocking him unconscious. The other deputy’s foot was run over, causing a foot injury.Stanly County and Rowan County deputies, who were at the other crime scene, saw the ongoing incident and responded.A Stanly County Sheriff’s Office deputy was nearly hit by the Volkswagen as it was fleeing the front yard of the home and the deputy shot at the left rear tire of the Volkswagen.The vehicle then traveled approximately 3.5 miles east on Bringle Ferry Road into Davidson County, where it was stopped by Stanly and Rowan deputies. The left rear tire was shredded.During the pursuit, officials say Feredinos threw marijuana drug paraphernalia and other items out of the vehicle, some of which was recovered by deputies.The two deputies were both taken to Novant Health-Rowan Medical Hospital for treatment of their injuries. One deputy was released, while the other deputy was still being evaluated for a head injury.Evidence collected at the scene included a deputy’s bloody body armor and gun belt, which showed the evidence of being dragged. His service weapon had significant damage.Feredinos was charged with two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury, one count of felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government officer, two counts of misdemeanor resist, obstruct and delay, and one count of felony fleeing to elude arrest.Feredinos was given a bond of $2 million and placed in the Rowan County Detention Center pending a first appearance in court.Lots of deputies at location off Bringle Ferry Road near Panther Creek.
