Learn how to make a DIY lavender wreath that will fill your space with the soothing aroma of fresh lavender and last for years.I am one lucky lady!The other day, my sweet neighbor showed up with a small bucket stuffed with lavender.She had trimmed her lavender plants in her garden and thought I might want some…Oh yes, please, I’d love them!It was a gorgeous, fragrant mix of fresh lavender flowers and dried lavender buds. And it smelled amazing!I wanted to ensure I could enjoy that gorgeous fragrance for a long time, so I turned that abundance into a dried lavender wreath.Let me show you how.This lavender wreath is the start of my for the year. And I am not the only one getting into the autumn mood. My fellow bloggers from the Thrifty Style Team have also been busy with fall home decor projects. You can find a link to their unique thrifty fall decor ideas at the bottom of this post.Now, back to wreath making and my latest DIY project.This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience (which means if you make a purchase after clicking a link, I will earn a small commission, but it won’t cost you a penny more)!&nbsp;Read my&nbsp;full disclosure policy.Working with fresh and dried lavender is an aromatic but also messy craft. Lay out some paper or a sheet on your work table. When you are done, there will be a lot of fallen lavender buds on the table, and you will want to save them for a lavender sachet or some homemade potpourri.Attach the floral wire to the hoop. Gather your first bunch of lavender stems. Place it on the hoop and wrap the floral wire tight around it.Tying the first bundle tightly to the floral hoop is crucial, but be careful not to break the lavender stems. They can be brittle.You can cut the stems of the lavender bundles with a pair of scissors. I cut them somewhat short before attaching the bundles to the hoop. I trimmed them some more when needed while making the wreath.Keep adding small bunches of lavender flowers to the wreath and tying them with the floral wire.Attach the bundles crisscross on the floral hoop’s inside and outside.Make sure the next lavender bunch covers the wire of the previous one.Trim the stems with scissors if they stick out.Check your work regularly to ensure your lavender flowers are placed evenly along the form.When you get to the last bundles, it will be a bit tricky. You have to add in the last bunches in such a way as to cover the previous wire and to make sure no wire of these bundles is showing.I prepared two small bundles with some floral wire wrapped around the lavender stems to support them (they’d break otherwise).Then, I carefully pushed and wiggled these bundles underneath and in between my first bundles. I did not wrap these last two bundles with the floral wire attached to the wreath. It was not necessary because they were secure enough, just pushed through.You are done making the wreath. All that is left is finishing it and ensuring you can easily hang it. You can use the floral wire for that. Take a bit of extra length before cutting it with the wire cutters. Form a small hanging loop with the extra wire, and done!That’s it! You made yourself a beautiful lavender wreath for your home.If you are wondering, the process for making a dried lavender wreath and a fresh lavender wreath is exactly the same. A fresh lavender wreath is easier to make because the stems are less brittle and will bend around the wreath form more easily.A fresh lavender wreath will dry to become an aromatic wreath that will last a long time. But if you only have dried lavender, that is fine too because you can still turn the dried flowers into a lovely wreath.Hang your homemade lavender wreath somewhere where you can enjoy the beautiful and relaxing fragrance. Just ensure it is out of direct sunlight so the purple color will not fade. (psst… that image above was for styling only.
