Dallas County reported 250 new positive COVID-19 cases and eight more deaths Saturday, closing out the first full week of May with its most cases reported in a week to date.The deaths include three residents of long-term care facilities: two Dallas men in their 60s and 80s and a Richardson woman in her 80s.The other victims were a Dallas man in his 50s, a Cockrell Hill man in his 50s, a Balch Springs woman in her 70s, a Farmers Branch woman in her 80s, and a Garland man in his 30s who was found dead in his home.The county has recorded 5,619 cases of the virus and 143 deaths. Over one-third of deaths have been associated with long-term care facilities, county health officials said.“For the week, we had a total of 1,720 cases, a 246 daily average and 33 deaths," Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement. "That compares to 990, 141 and 29 for the previous week."Residents should continue to avoid crowds, practice 6-foot distancing, wear a cloth covering at businesses and on public transportation and practice good hygiene,” Jenkins said.Of hospitalizations to date, two-thirds have been people under 65, and about half didn’t have any health conditions that would put them at higher risk of developing complications, county health officials said. Diabetes has been reported as an underlying health condition in about a third of cases.Of cases requiring hospitalization in which place of employment was reported, almost 80% worked in critical infrastructure, in fields including health care, transportation, food and agriculture and public works.Meanwhile, the city of Dallas’ Office of Emergency Management said the county’s official testing centers, at American Airlines Center and Ellis Davis Field House, would be closed Sunday in observance of Mother’s Day. The sites will reopen Monday.Related:Tarrant County health officials reported 83 new positive cases and six more deaths Saturday.Five of the victims lived in Fort Worth: two men and three women, all in their 70s and 80s. The sixth death was an Arlington man in his 60s. All six had underlying health conditions, county health officials said.The county has now recorded 3,210 coronavirus cases and 101 deaths. Total recoveries stand at 779, the county said.Collin County reported 14 new positive cases Saturday, bringing its total to 901. Total deaths remained at 27.Collin County has 287 current cases of COVID-19. Of those, 21 are hospitalized and 266 are in home isolation.Meanwhile, 587 residents have recovered from the illness.Denton County reported 12 more COVID-19 cases Saturday, bringing the county’s total to 914. Of all cases, 453 are active, the county said. Total recoveries stand at 436.Rockwall County on Saturday reported three more positive cases of coronavirus at Broadmoor Medical Lodge in Rockwall, along with two other new cases.The county said the two non-Broadmoor cases are Fate residents in their 40s. The county has reported 112 cases total.The new cases at Broadmoor include two residents and one staff member. There have been 52 cases at the nursing facility — 32 residents and 20 employees. Four residents have died. Meanwhile, 11 residents and 14 staff members have recovered, the county said.County health officials said the total number of cases at Broadmoor Medical Lodge does not match the number of cases reported on Rockwall County’s website and Facebook page because the facility shares information with the county in real time, while data from the Texas Department of State Health Services lags behind.
