"I was very tied to my teammates at Louisville. But entering the portal was the best thing for me, my happiness and basketball development."She found herself prospecting playing for Kim Mulkey and LSU at several points last season while observing them from afar and months before she had really considered leaving the Cardinals.Once her mind was made up, the Wenatchee, Washington native was very intentional about how she was going to handle her next step. She entered the portal with a "do not contact" tag, meaning she had a very short list of schools she was going to consider.Mulkey and LSU was obviously at the top of that list. She took an unannounced, under-the-wraps visit to campus in Baton Rouge and nowhere else. Within a couple of weeks, Van Lith was committed to the Tigers."I actually said that many times throughout the season, even when I didn't know I was transferring. I was like, 'man I want to play on that team.' Just like the energy the coaches coach with, the energy coach Mulkey brings to the court, the energy the assistants bring to the court, the energy and attitude the girls play with," Van Lith said."I think the culture of the team really drew me in. But then getting the chance to play for one of the best point guards ever in coach Mulkey and learn from her is something that's really valuable to me. The fans here, like no other. But one thing that's not changed is the mentality and skill set. The point guard is still that honorable mention All-American caliber-player who averaged 19 points a game in 2022-23.That culture she was drawn to though, she said, has been as good a fit as she envisioned."It's a whole new environment, a big change but I'm taking it day-by-day. I'm super grateful for the opportunity to be here," Van Lith said.
