Cabras 2 personnel continue to monitor the 48-year-old machine and increase load as needed, the update stated."The unit is fragile and is still susceptible to boiler tube leaks. GPA continues to work to alleviate this issue by purchasing and changing out boiler tubes as needed," GPA's update added.Despite these issues, the return of Cabras 2 does mean that all baseload units on Guam are now online. Once Cabras 2 is stable, GPA will bring the Piti 7 Combustion Turbine offline for work to eventually increase its capacity from 22 megawatts to 31 MW. This will require a five-day outage for the unit. At this time, Piti 7 is running with limited production.Another major combustion turbine, Yigo CT, was damaged by Typhoon Mawar. The unit's generator rotor and other damaged parts have been shipped off-island for repair. GPA stated that Yigo CT is anticipated to return to service by December.&nbsp;Guam remains in a vulnerable position with regard to power capacity until the completion of the new power plant in Ukudu, Dededo. Unfortunately, storage tanks at the plant site were also damaged by Mawar, and the plant's commissioning was pushed back to January 2026.&nbsp;GPA has been publishing load shedding notices, informing residents of when they can expect rotating outages to occur should the island's power demands exceed generation capacity. Thursday's status update stated that an outage schedule released some days ago will remain in effect until Sunday. The schedule can be found on GPA's Facebook page.&nbsp;To alleviate some of the demand, GPA utilizes an interruptible load program. Through this program, large power consumers and the U.S. Navy utilize their own generation when demand begins to exceed capacity, which typically happens at night. However, GPA knows it can't overuse this program because it will lead to the degradation of their partners' generation systems. Mawar had also reduced the pool of interruptible load partners, as customer generators are in need of repair.&nbsp;Last month, the Consolidated Commission on Utilities granted GPA the green light to pursue 40 MW of temporary power.
