This technique can be used for embroidery on clothing or for a wall hanging. I want to add embroidery on a Heat Transfer vinyl to a sweatshirt, it would be so cute. I made a small sample to show you this idea, but you can see how this would work on so many different projects.How cute is this embroidery with a heat transfer background? I love the textured layered look and can’t wait to use this technique on a sweatshirt. It would be so cute. I have a full video tutorial for you right here… if you want the step out in photo format you can check out the tutorial below.You can watch the video tutorial above or here are the same steps laid out in photo form.Here are the supplies you will need to recreate this project.Gather your supplies and then decide on your embroidery file. You can use built in designs/fonts on your machine, buy a font/design or use Artspira like I did. This free App from Brother is FULL of free embroidery and cutting designs and I love the editor to create your own. Here’s what I did in a few easy steps.First, if you don’t have to app, download using the link in the supply list. Then connect the app to your wifi machines {cutting, sewing, printing} Select the NEW button at the bottom, then the design editor.2. Select your hoop size {they have all the options now!} and then I added font, not a design.3. Type in the words you want then use the editor to rotate and change the size.4. You can also resize by pinching and dragging the font. Change to your desired font with a single click.5. Now I’m ready to transfer to my machine. I didn’t save and then hit the transfer button. You can now find this design in the cloud/pocket button on your connected embroidery machine.6. Now back to the project. I cut a piece of heat transfer vinyl bigger than I needed and REMOVED the clear topping. Peel the protective layer off very carefully and set aside for later. Hoop your stabilizer and fabric, then place the vinyl with the right side of the vinyl UP and the heat transfer side down towards the fabric. {we will press on later}. Pin the HTV in place.7. Open up the transferred design on your machine. Position the design where you want on your fabric/vinyl and start the embroidery.8. When the design is finished, remove the hoop from your machine. Take the fabric out of the hoop and grab some small sharp scissors. Trim around the embroidery leaving a wide allowance so the vinyl will be a border around the stitches. You can be as detailed or as general with your trimming.9. When you finish you should have vinyl that is still loose on the edges and is a border to the embroidery.10. Grab the protective sheet you removed from the vinyl before and place it on top. Use a hot iron or heat press to secure the vinyl to the fabric. Need more help with heat transfer vinyl?
