The popular Northfield company looked for ways to aid the community when the coronavirus pandemic first arrived. GET THE LATEST: Download the MyNBC5 appAccording to Brooke Kaplan, Darn Tough's marketing director, the company did not have the kind of equipment needed to pivot their operation to making face masks. Instead, they doubled down on their expertise to create a product solely dedicated to raising funds for the Vermont Foodbank. All of the proceeds from the 4VTFB socks are being donated to the South Barre nonprofit. They run about $22 for a pair, similar to other Darn Tough designs. The food bank serves as a central hub and distribution center for community pantries across the state. "This is just one of those things that is just fundamental to who we are," Kaplan said. As the pandemic leaves tens of thousands of Vermonters out of work, the food bank is experiencing an unprecedented surge of people seeking assistance. "It's going to be over a year before people really start to recover, because once you lose that cushion, it takes a long time to build that back up," said Vermont Food Bank CEO John Sayles.
