/Community Convalescent Center reports that 56 residents and 17 staffers have tested positive for COVID-19.A Plant City nursing home is dealing with an outbreak of 73 coronavirus cases among staff and residents, the state is reporting.So far, 56 residents at the Community Convalescent Center, also known as Community Care Center, have tested positive for the virus and were transferred out of the facility, according to the latest figures released Tuesday morning. Seventeen staff members also tested positive.The medical condition of those 73 cases was not known early Tuesday. The state did not report any deaths at the facility on Sunday, which is when the latest data on long-term care facilities was released.The center, located at 2202 W Oak Avenue, is a not-for-profit and has 120 beds, according to Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration. It provides a range of nursing services, including helping to transition patients from hospital to home.The Tampa Bay Times contacted a Hillsborough County spokesman late Monday for comment on the situation. County officials referred the Times on Tuesday to the Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County. Emails and a phone message to the department were not immediately returned.The facility did not respond to a request for comment on the current situation. Instead, it sent the Times a statement from April 25 saying they were boosting preventative measures and had created units to care for COVID-19 patients and those under investigation of exposure to the virus, and a separate unit for those unaffected.Hillsborough’s Emergency Policy Group, a body of top elected officials, last week voted 7-1 to on Monday, the same day that Gov. Ron DeSantis partially reopened Florida.Plant City Mayor Rick Lott voted with the majority to rescind the order.As Florida reopened on Monday, of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. The statewide total of reported infections stood at 36,897, but that is likely an undercount because testing is still limited.The state reported 20 new deaths, including three in the Tampa Bay area. Statewide, 1,423 people have died of the virus.The data shows that more than a third of coronavirus deaths, or 497, were residents or staff members of long-term care facilities.The state has reported coronavirus cases among staff or residents at 13 long-term care facilities in Hillsborough County.
