Skip to contentLast Updated on April 21, 2023 byPortable generators are a great tool to have for those who RV, like to camp, or just to have as a home backup power source.One of the main struggles of owning a portable generator is having to be able to pull the start cord in order to get it running.This can be a difficult task for some people, so choosing an electric start or remote start generator can be a huge help.Remote start generators are essentially electric start generators with a key fob that allows you to start the generator from further distances.These are great for those cold winter days where you do not want to spend time outside trying to start your generator.In this article, I review my top 10 best remote start generators.Champion is one of the most well-known brands both in the industry and on this site.Nearly every article that I have done that had a list usually includes a Champion generator.Since Champion is one the forefront of technology with their remote starters generators, you will notice that they appear a few times on this very list.The Champion 75537i generator is going to come equipped with a 4-stroke, single cylinder 171cc engine that provides 3100 starting watts and 2800 running watts.This is going to be great for powering just about any smaller household or RV appliance.It also makes for a great home backup power source for those who experience power outages often.Weighing in at 96.6 lbs, this generator is certainly not one that you will want to try to pick up and carry by yourself, or even with a friend.Champion has taken this into consideration and has built-in wheels, carrying handles, and a folding transport handles to make moving this generator much easier.The Champion 75537i is going to feature a 171cc engine that operates at only 58 dBa for a quiet operation. This allows it to easily be used in residential and camping settings.When it comes to plugging appliances into your Champion 75537i, you will have a nice selection of outlets to choose from. The most popular electronic items are going to benefit from a pair of 120V household outlets that make using just about any smaller appliances much easier. A 12V DC outlet will allow you to plug in various cigarette lighter style plugs into this generator for safe, reliable charging.Lastly, you will get a 120V 30A TT-30R outlet to use on larger appliances or hooking up an RV to this generator.Champion backs this generator up with a 3-year limited warranty and free lifetime technical support from dedicated experts.IMHO: In My Humble OpinionIt is hard to go wrong with a Champion generator, and that is made very apparent by how many are on this list. If you are looking for a remote start generator that can power your RV, small or large appliances during a blackout, or to use for home improvement jobs, this generator is going to be a perfect candidate.One of the lesser-known brands on this list is also going to be the lowest wattage rating as well.AllPower, an inverter generator company, offers a 2800W generator that is capable of powering your smaller appliances while offering clean energy for sensitive electronics.With a 4 stroke, OHV engine, this generator is able to put out 2600 running watts and 2800 starting watts.This is going to be a perfect generator for powering small appliances during a blackout, keeping your TV going at a tailgate party, or charging up your electronics while camping.Weighing in at 64lb and sporting a built-in handle, this generator can be hoisted in and out of a car or trailer by someone on the stronger side, but toting it around longer distances may be a pain.If you are needing to move it around, I would suggest bringing along a wagon or dolly.This remote-controlled start generator is going to feature a 1.8-gallon fuel tank to allow for up to 6.5 hours of runtime at 50% load.This is going to be perfect for getting through short blackouts or camping trips.Looking at the control panel, you are going to get a good look of the available outlets and features.One great feature that stands out is the system display. This will allow you to keep an eye on important metrics of your generator.You will also find a pair of household outlets and a 12V DC outlet to plug up common household appliances and charge a battery.You will never have to worry about bothering neighbors or disturbing wildlife with this remote-controlled starter generator as it has an operating volume level of only 58 dBa. As a reference, this is about the same noise level as a normal conversation.IMHO: In My Humble OpinionAt under $500, this generator is not too big of an investment for a brand that is not widely known. It does have many great features that are found on most generators, but the lack of information on the generator and warranty information makes me a little skeptical on pulling the trigger on this one.While Firman is one of the lesser-known generators on this list, it is certainly not one that should be shrugged off.While they do not have the same reputation as Champion or Westinghouse, Firman is a large brand in the power equipment industry.The Firman W03083 generator is going to give you 3300 starting watts and 3000 running watts, putting it right in line with many of the other mid-power generators on this list.This generator is going to feature a 1.8-gallon fuel tank which will allow you an impressive 10 hours of run time at 50% load.Since this generator is going to tip the scales at around the 90lb mark, you can go ahead and forget about trying to carry it around with you.Instead, you can use the integrated never-flat wheels and built-in, foldable handle to move this generator to just about anywhere you want.Getting to the outlets, you will see something we have not seen on any of the generators we have discussed so far – covered outlets. Each outlet on the Firman W03083 generator will come equipped with a plastic locking cover to protect the outlets from dirt, debris, and moisture. Choose from a variety of outlets including (2) 5-20R 20A-120V, (1) DC Outlet 12V8.3A, (1) TT-30R 30A-120V, and (1) USB 5VDV.Firman is going to back up this generator with a 3-year warranty, meaning you can rest assured that you are buying a quality product.IMHO: In My Humble OpinionThis DuroMax generator is a great all around generator that can be used for many different applications. You really can’t go wrong when choosing a DuroMax as long as you get the right power ratings for your needs. Being a dual-fuel generator, this is perfect for those who want an alternative fuel source.Champion makes a second appearance on this list with the 46539 3500 watt generator.This is a small step up from the 3100-watt generator mentioned previously in this list, but it is still in the mid-level power range.At first glance, you will notice that the 46539 generator is going to be more rugged than the 3100 watts, making it much more prone to commercial use.The exposed frame ensures that your generator stays protected when moving it around.With a 196cc Champion engine, you can expect to get 4000 starting watts and 3500 running watts from this generator.It is going to feature a 3.8 gallon fuel tank that will provide you wih 12 hours of runtime at 50% load.The 46539 generator will do all of this while producing only 68 dBa from 23 feet.Looking at the outlets, you will see that at this level, Champion does not include covered outlets which is a little disappointing, but the selection of outlets seems to make up for that.You can expect a nice variety of outlets including: 120V 30A locking, 120V 30A RV and two 120V 20A outlets.The built in wheels and folding handle are going to make moving this 125lb generator much easier. With the remote start feature, you can easily place your generator anywhere you need it and start it from up to 80 feet away. This is perfect for keeping operating volumes down.Champion backs this generator up with a 3 year limited warranty and free lifetime technical support from dedicated experts.IMHO: In My Humble OpinionThis Champion generator is going to be a perfect generator for both residential and commercial use. While it may be a little overkill if you are just wanting something to power up a small fridge to get you through a blackout, it is going to be perfect for powering your whole RV, larger appliances, or even large tools.The third Champion generator on my list is going to be the 100573 4000 watts digital hybrid generator that features a remote start, quiet technology, extended run time, economy mode, clean power, and a parallel kit.It is also going to feature a digital hybrid inverter for advanced power.Taking a quick look at this Champion generator, it looks very similar to many of their other mid-level generators with an exposed frame and an easy-to-use control panel.It will feature the same wheel and foldable handle setup featured on many of their other generators to make moving this 96lb generator much easier.The 224cc Champion generator is going to offer up 4000 starting watts and 3500 running watts, making it ideal for any residential, RV, and most small commercial use.Covered outlets are a sight to see on this generator as it is just one more thing that makes it stand out from the competition.The protective covers are going to protect a 120V 30A (TT-30R) outlet, a 120V 20A Duplex (5-20R) outlet, and a 12V DC Automotive outlet, giving you a wide variety of options when it comes to powering your appliances.Champion backs this generator up with a 3-year limited warranty and free lifetime technical support from dedicated experts.IMHO: In My Humble OpinionThis is going to be one of the best generators that you will be able to buy due to its great features, versatility, and useability. With all of the great addons Champion included in this generator, you will be able to use it for just about anything you may need it for. The optional parallel kit allows you to add on another 100573 generator to get twice the power.Pulsar Product has made quite the name for themselves when it comes to high-quality generators.I have reviewed a few over the years in previous articles and they have all met or exceeded my expectations. The PG4000iSR has made this list thanks to the remote start capability and great supplemental features.Featuring a 224cc OHV engine, this generator is going to produce 4000 peak watts and 3500 running watts at a quiet 63 decibels.It is going to come equipped with a 3.4 gallon fuel tank that will allow for up to 15 hours of continuous use at 50% load.At 92lbs, you can expect that this generator is not going to be one that you want to pick up and move around.That is why Pulsar has integrated never-flat wheels and a telescoping handle to make moving this generator much easier.Seeing covered outlets always makes me happy as it is a sure sign that the manufacturer thought a little harder about protecting this generator.The outlet protectors cover 2 AC 120V outlets, 1 30A RV outlet, 1 12V DC 8A outlet, and 1 5V DC USB outlet.Backed by a 3-year warranty, this Pulsar generator is covered for any manufacturing defects.IMHO: In My Humble OpinionThis Pulsar generator is a great little generator to give you mid-level power without being too much of a hassle to deal with. While this is not a generator that I would use for commercial use since it does not have an exposed frame and features an off white exterior, it would make a perfect RV or household generator.Westinghouse is one of the most popular generator manufacturers in the industry as they produce some of the highest quality, most purchased generators in various different wattage ratings.The iGen4500 generator is no different as it has great mid-level power, convenient features, and a warranty to back it all up.Starting with the engine, you are going to get a 224cc Westinghouse 7hp engine that is capable of putting out 4500 starting watts and 3700 running watts.With a 3.4 gallon fuel tank, you can expect about 18 hours of runtime at 25% load. This generator does all of this while retaining a noise level as low as 53 dBa.The iGen4500 generator is going to feature covered outlets which help to protect your generator from foreign materials such as dirt, debris, and moisture.These protectors will cover a single 120V AC 30A TT-30R outlet, 2 120V AC 20A 5-20R outlets, and 2 5V DC USB ports.While this is a decent selection of outlets, I had personally hoped to see a twist lock outlet with the size of this generator.Westinghouse is going to protect this generator with a 3 year warranty and free lifetime technical support.IMHO: In My Humble OpinionI would not hesitate to recommend this generator. If you are only needing to use a couple of appliances at a time, the outlet selection should be perfect for what you need. It has all of the classic features that make generators great and I would not think twice about this purchase.Firman makes another appearance on this list, this time with a more powerful 4550 watt generator.This generator is going to provide you with long lasting, efficient power that can be used for camping, emergency, and work site power.The P03612 generator is going to feature a 208cc engine that will provide you with 4550 starting watts and 3650 running watts. A 5 gallon tank is going to allow you to enjoy up to 14 hours of run time at 50% load at only 67 dBa.To get your appliances and tools powered up, you can choose from a nice variety of outlets.These outlets will include (2) 5-20R 20A-120V outlets, (1) L14-30R 30A-120V/240V Twist Lock outlet, and (1) TT-30R 30A-120V RV Ready outlet.Firman is going to back up this generator with a 3 year warranty, meaning you can rest assured that you are buying a quality product.IMHO: In My Humble OpinionWhile Firman isn’t the first name you think of when you think of generator brands, it sure puts up a great fight with this generator. This generator has all of the great features of a great generator without the large price tag seen on other generators. I would highly suggest this generator to anyone who is looking for a mid-level, affordable generator.Getting into the heavier duty generators, Champion is going to lead us in with this 7500 watt generator.The Champion 100161 is a wireless start generator that can take on just about any job, big or small.With a large 439cc engine, you are going to get to enjoy up to 9375 starting watts and 7500 running watts from this generator.The run time is going to be a little low at 8 hours from the 6 gallon tank and the noise level will be about average at 74 dBa. (see my article about the most quiet generators for more silent inverters)You will see covered outlets on this Champion generator to protect a great selection of useful outlets.These outlets will include 1 120/240V 50A (14-50R) outlet, 1 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet, 1 120V 30A (TT-30R) outlet, and 2 GFCI 120V 20A Duplex (5-20R) outlets.Champion backs this generator up with a 3-year limited warranty and free lifetime technical support from dedicated experts.IMHO: In My Humble OpinionIf you are needing a larger remote start generator, the Champion 100161 is a great choice. From a large outlet selection to a powerful wattage capacity, this generator is ready to take on just about any job you throw at it. The only downfall is that it has a lower run time than most on this list, but it can still power through most of a work day.The largest generator on this list is going to be the Westinghouse WGen7500.This generator is going to come with all of the bells and whistles for those who are wanting an all-inclusive generator.This generator is equipped with a powerful 420cc Westinghouse 4 stroke engine to allow you to power up to 7500 running watts and 9500 peak watts. It will give you up to 16 hours of run time from the 6.6 gallon fuel tank.Westinghouse has included covered outlets to protect the 2 duplex 220V outlets and 30A 120/240C AC outlet, which is a huge plus.A smart switch plug allows you to make the most of your generator in just about any situation.You will also get a battery charger, oil, oil funnel, and a tool kit with this generator to ensure that you are ready to use your generator straight out of the box.Westinghouse is going to offer a 3 year warranty on each of it’s generators.IMHO: In My Humble OpinionYou can never go wrong in purchasing a Westinghouse generator. This specific generator is going to give you everything you have ever wanted from a generator, plus more. You can use the WGen7500 for a variety of different uses and it is EPA, CARB, and CSA compliant.While a remote start for your generator may seem like a novelty item, it can actually be pretty handy for just about everyone.Starting a generator with a traditional pull cord can be hard for those who are not strong enough to pull the cord, making many generators quite useless.With a remote start generator, you can easily start your generator with the push of a button.It also comes in handy if you are using it in extreme cold or hot weather where you may not want to step outside to try to start your generator. You can start it from the comfort of your home.When using a portable generator with a remote start, you are going to want to take the same precautions you would when using any other type of generator. Since you may not be in line sight of your generator, you will want to make sure that your generator is always in a spot where it will not become wet, damaged, or become a nuisance for sound.You will also want to make sure that it is in a well-ventilated area and properly maintained before starting it up from any distance.Now that I have listed my top 10 remote start generators, you should be able to find the one that fits perfectly for what you are needing.Remember to always calculate the amount of wattage you will need from your generator before purchasing one.Finding one that has more wattage than you need will allow you to keep your generator from overheating and lasting longer.Are you currently using a remote generator?
