Matt Gaetz (R-FL) after he successfully filed a motion to remove then Speaker Kevin McCarthy from the job on Tuesday.&nbsp;Hern is on a short list of potential replacements for McCarthy. That list right now only includes Hern, House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA).&nbsp;"I want the people back at home to hear it from myself," Hern said. "It's important for me to clear up all of the talk and things they may see out there."&nbsp;Hern said while he supported keeping McCarthy as speaker, it was clear the caucus needed to move on and have a leader who hasn't made his entire career about being in and a part of Washington D.C.&nbsp;"I think he (McCarthy) promised too much, and he couldn't keep up with all those promises," Hern said.&nbsp;Hern said between now and when the House reconvenes to elect a new speaker on Wednesday, he said he and his staff was assessing if there was interest in seeing him ascend to the top job in the House.&nbsp;"I am seeing if there is enough interest in the caucus right now to see me make a run for speaker," Hern told FOX23 News.&nbsp;Hern received a few votes for speaker back in January, but he said McCarthy fought for the new Republican majority and deserved a chance to serve. Hern was also dealing with the death of his mother at the same week of that historic vote for speaker, and he said it just wasn't the right time to make a proper assessment of where he could serve in leadership.&nbsp;"Since that time, I have chaired the Republican study committee. I have formed relationships with many members of the caucus who belong to multiple groups," Hern said. "I've gotten to know them, and they know me. We have a lot of the same priorities, especially when it comes to cutting the deficit, cutting spending, and fighting inflation."&nbsp;The Republican Study Committee is one of the largest work groups on Capitol Hill, and it was formed in the 1970s during the Nixon Administration by the GOP to commit to conservative governance when it felt a Republican Administration was growing government and departing from conservative principles.&nbsp;"I haven't been here making a career out of this," Hern said. "I come from a business background, and that is where my experience comes from, and that is what has helped guide me since I came to Washington."&nbsp;Hern said he understood that November 17th is coming.
