The reboot of the popular series Magnum P.I. is returning with the second part of its fifth and final season. Jay Hernandez continues to captivate audiences in his rendition of the suave private investigator, Thomas Magnum, a role originally made famous by Tom Selleck. By his side is the formidable Juliet Higgins, brought to life by Perdita Weeks.The first part of Magnum P.I. Season 5 kept up the mystery and action in the city of Honolulu. So, fasten your seatbelts, fans! Here’s what we know so far about Magnum P.I. Season 5 Part 2. Spoilers ahead from the previous episodes.The reboot of the popular Tom Selleck-led series is now in its fifth and final season. Magnum P.I. Season 5 was broken into two parts, and part two is set to air soon. NBC’s renewal of the reboot came at a time when the show was initially canceled by CBS after four seasons. The network also chose not to renew the show for a sixth season by then, allowing contracts to expire during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.The reboot premiered on CBS in 2018 as a modern remake of the 1980s series. Also set in Hawaii, it also had its fair share of crossovers with other rebooted shows like Hawaii Five-O and MacGyver. Both Hawaii Five-O and MacGyver have already ended, and Magnum P.I. Season 5 will conclude Thomas Magnum’s adventures. NBC ordered 20 episodes for the final season of the reboot, and the network has long confirmed Magnum P.I. Season 5 Part 2.Serving as showrunner for the Magnum P.I. reboot is Eric Guggenheim, after the original show’s Donald P. Bellisario and Glen A. Larson. Guggenheim is also one of the reboot’s executive producers.John Davis, Justin Lin, and Gene Hong are also executive producers of Magnum P.I. As are Barbie Kligman, David Wolkove, and John Fox.With Part 1 of Season 5 having already aired, Magnum and his friends had to deal with mysterious cases, from missing people to false identities and even dangerous killers on the loose. The cases went to the extent that even Higgins, who was undercover, became a victim at some point. But the underlying plot in the show was Magnum’s secret relationship with Higgins and the mysterious disappearance of Magnum’s former Navy Captain Buck Greene.When it comes to Magnum’s and Higgins’ relationship, they decide to keep it a secret from their closest friends. It won’t stay a secret for long, but it definitely will cause some intrigue from Rick and T.C. when they find some evidence of Magnum’s relationship, unaware that it’s with Higgins. Unsurprisingly, Magnum ended up telling all of his closest friends, including Detective Gordon Katsumoto.Meanwhile, Greene’s kidnapping becomes even more concerning when his body is found in a morgue. The men responsible also happen to be determined to look for Magnum, Rick, and T.C. It’s revealed that the three of them worked together on a black ops mission to eliminate a specific target, Ahmad Hadid. This ended up in the three of them becoming targets as well. Magnum comes up with a plan to track down and find the men who killed Greene.To make things worse, Detective Chris Childs is killed after activating a tripwire in a safe house he was investigating. Rick and T.C. get in danger with the latter sustaining gunshot wounds and the former taken hostage. Rick manages to get through to Mangum, who also identifies Ahmad’s former flame Nadine Amherst as the mastermind.For Magnum P.I. Season 5 Part 2, Jay Hernandez is returning as the titular character Thomas Magnum. The same can be said for Perdita Weeks as Juliet Higgins, Zachary Knighton as Rick Wright,&nbsp;and Stephen Hill as Theodore “T.C.” Calvin. Tim Kang is also coming back as Detective Gordon Katsumoto as will Amy Hill as Teuila “Kumu” Tuileta. Betsy Philips will also return as Suzy Madison.Also expected to return are Bobby Lee as Jin and Emily Alana as Mahina in recurring appearances. Guggenheim revealed to TVLine that there are new characters that will be introduced in Season 5 Part 2. Patrick Fabian is joining the cast as an antagonist while Sab Shimono will guest star in Episode 13, which features a storyline about the Japanese internment camps in the US.Sab Shimono is anticipated to bring some authenticity to the role because of a personal connection. Shimono’s family was interned at one of the camps when he was a child.A trailer for the second half dropped on September 6, 2023, showing Magnum maintaining his cool even when held at gunpoint. The trailer also promised fans some more intense action ahead with the titular character’s relationship with Juliet Higgins going strong despite the challenges. Magnum is also shown jumping from a bridge to the back of a truck, while Higgins says he needs all the help he can get.Fans can also expect more car chases ahead as stressed by Higgins’ final reveal that will change everything forever. Guggenheim told TV Guide that the writers planned to include a backstory surrounding Higgins’ connection to Robin, the person who owns the property Magnum stays in, should the show be renewed for Season 6.For Magnum P.I. Season 5 Part 2, expect to see the same twists and turns, along with the changing dynamic between Magnum and Higgins. Given what Higgins revealed in the trailer, we can only wait and see how those revelations affect their relationship. There’s also Chris Child’s death, and the second half may give the characters some time to grieve over him.Rick’s relationship with Suzy Madison is also expected to play out in the second half, especially after Rick deleted his “final” emotional message to her. Will T.C. make a full recovery after the wounds he sustained? It remains to be seen. This could make a nice moment to round out the show.Magnum P.I. Season 5 Part 2 will premiere on NBC on October 4, 2023. The release date for the second half follows the initial announcement that it would premiere in 2024. As said earlier, the network opted not to renew the show for another season, allowing the contracts to expire in the midst of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.The episodes will air weekly since then and will be available for streaming on Peacock the next day. Magnum P.I.’s earlier seasons are also available to watch on Amazon’s Freevee but Season 5 will be on Peacock. The previous seasons will also be available for purchase on Apple TV.Should Magnum P.I. get a lot of streaming traffic from the two platforms it’s on, NBC may decide to renew it after all.
