Great Context
September 10, 2019
This AP story has a wide range of background material on Bolton, his views and his influence in GOP administrations.
Its authors have drawn on their organization's resources, besides individually having good track records on covering the regular flow of political news.
As the article mentions, Bolton has a strong record as a hawk; I never could figure out how Trump, who campaigned on “not being the world's policeman,” would work with the man who—perhaps more than anyone else—promoted the overthrow of Hussein. Now we know: the relationship lasted 16 months. Everything in this story is consistent with either Trump's mercurial personality, and also the jockeying for power around him.

Speculation
September 10, 2019
There is a great deal of speculation in this with a few quotes added to give some feeling of credibility. As usual, any time twitter is the primary source, you can toss the credibility right out the window and chalk the story up to nothing more than hearsay at best.

Well, the global nuclear holocaust is postponed at least a week.
Then Bolton's replacement will be named: will it be "only"
a semi-monster or will His Hairness (aka "Trump") delve even deeper
into the fetid slime of the drained swamp for someone worse than
Bolton. There is a morbid curiosty to find out if such a creature actually exists.
