Major County Sheriff's Office dispatch worked to contact pipeline operators in the area and were able to determine the release was coming from a high-pressure gas pipeline owned by Phillips 66, according to the FFD statement.Major County Emergency Management Director Mendi Jones responded to the area, as did Major County EMS to provide safety standby.Orion FD firefighters worked to evacuate residents in the area due to the volume of the release. FFD personnel and deputies determined based on the swirling of the wind to close U.S. 60.Orion Fire Chief Eric Nichols said there was no explosion or fire.He said firefighters went to six homes and most residents evacuated the area. Only two homes were in the direct path of the fumes, he said, but the others were evacuated as a precaution."With the lightning storm coming in we were worried about possible ignition," Nichols said. "The storm looked pretty wicked coming in."While residents were evacuated, representatives from Phillips 66 arrived and were able to isolate the blowout with nearby valves, and the gas pressure was quickly relieved, according to the FFD statement.Phillips 66 representatives on scene stated it was an underground 10-inch steel natural gas pipeline operating between 700-800psi. The blowout was not located close to homes and no injuries were reported.Once Phillips 66 determined the pipeline was secured, U.S. 60 was reopened.
