The opening night speaker talked about, “Rediscovering The Wonder of God.” He was talking to people that regularly attend church and are involved in the church. And yet he thought it was important to say, “We must rediscover the wonder of God again.”I don’t know where you are at with God. Maybe you believe in God, are somewhat regular attending church and you read the Bible, but you have lost the “wonder” of God. Our world is filled with amazing technology. We can fly through the air, and communicate with anyone, anywhere instantly throughout the world. You need not suffer boredom for a moment as we can have instant gratification at our fingertips on our cellphones. Yet with all of this, our culture has lost a sense of wonder about who God is.Many people recognize God’s name; they know about Him. Sometimes people call God an “inner reality,” or “the force,” or simply “Mother Nature.” Some people think God is like a heavenly police officer who looks for opportunities to “Get us.” Some see God like a grandfather, a kindly old gentleman who never wants to distract us from enjoying life. People look at God in many ways and yet there is little “wonder” or amazement about God.- Advertisement -The Bible says that all things exist for God’s glory alone. Psalm 150: 1-2 says, “Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty expanse. Praise Him for His mighty deeds; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness.” And verse 6 of that same Psalm says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!” You see we do not exist for ourselves. The narrative of life is God’s story. It’s not, first, about my story. It’s not about me. It’s not about my will, my plans, my pleasure, my accomplishments, and my desires. It is about God. I am not the center, I am not entitled, it is not about a life oriented around myself. I know that my first instinct is to think life is about me. Yet the very first words of the Bible tell me it is not about me, it is about God. Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”God wants to shape our lives. We may need to rediscover the wonder of God again or maybe we can discover the wonder of God for the very first time. God is revealed to us today in His Son, Jesus. John 1:18 says, “No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He (Jesus) has explained Him.” Do you know God through His Son Jesus the Christ? Have you discovered the wonder of God?— The Rev.
