Skip to contentI’m leaning more toward green these days, so I have a new color in my kitchen to show you.Green is such a soothing color; the color of nature. I’m mixing green dishes in with my white dishes. The red dishes are being stored in my dishwasher.You’re probably asking yourself: Why did she put them in the dishwasher?Well, the motor is about to go out in that dishwasher, maintenance told me. But they’re aren’t replacing them with the same kind of dish washers now.They’re now replacing them with cheap dishwashers without a heating element to dry your dishes. I don’t want one of those.I’d rather use my dishwasher for storage, and sit on my walker and wash dishes by hand.Anyway, back to the kitchen. I’m slowly phasing red out for the time being.I added the green and white barn salad plates along the back of the first shelf. I got those on clearance a few months ago and used them in a tablescape.They’re green and white, so I thought I’d use them.I also added a couple of white pitchers from my pitcher collection to the top shelf.Most of my living room, bedroom, and bathroom is now decorated in earthy colors: brown, green, and shades of white.These are the curtains I ordered from Amazon.My daughter Kendra came over with her drill and hung them for me on Sunday afternoon. They are sort of a cream and green pinstripe color.I shopped and shopped for curtains online to find the ones I wanted. And I almost went with a green and cream floral.But I finally chose these pinstripe curtains, and I’m very pleased with them.I could not find curtains I wanted that were less than 63 inches long. So Kendra hung them high where they almost clear the trash can.I’ll have the curtains open most of the time because I have blinds, so it doesn’t really matter.Kendra is going to go to Lowes to pick up the green paint I’ve used on 4 or 5 pieces of furniture. It’s called crushed oregano.I’m planning to touch up the furniture I painted that shade of green years ago. Those pieces of furniture have gotten nicked and scratched over the years.At some point I want to paint the little red shelf over my sink with that same paint color.I’m not putting as many dishes in my open kitchen cabinets now. Instead I’m allowing more space so that the eye has a place to rest.It just amazed me, but when I wiped the empty shelves down, there was just a small amount of dust. It barely showed on the wet paper towel I used.And I haven’t cleaned those shelves since I moved in and took the doors off! So why do my open shelves not collect dust? It is a mystery.I found these dishes at Amazon and they were a very good buy, but now they’ve gone back up in price again.One mug was broken. Amazon is refunding the entire amount of the dishware and I don’t have to send these back. I got them on sale for $30.00 less than they are now.So I got both my dishware and I’m also getting money back, less one broken mug! Win-win!These are the four glasses I ordered. They are so pretty. There’s kind of a vintage look to them that I really like.These are not shown in the photos, but I ordered these green dish towels.I haven’t ordered dish towels in ages and I’m so pleased with these. They are larger than any other dish towels I’ve had.They’re 18 x 28, an oversized towel that I wasn’t even aware they sold.Now I can toss some of my old dish towels that are ratty and old.Here are the pinstriped curtains I ordered from Amazon. They’re a soft shade of green.So now you see what I’m doing in stages in my kitchen to switch things up.When you’re inside your home most of the time, sometimes you just need a little change to perk things up.{There are affiliate links in this post}The green is lovely Brenda! I had a smilar color in my old house and loved it. Now a different house required a different color scheme and I’m enjoying this one too. Changing things up is always fun.Your new green kitchen is beautiful! You did a lovely job. You always do!I like your changes! It’s fun and refreshing to change things up.I have never used the heating element in my dishwasher. I set it on the 1 hour cycle (which doesn’t use the heating element) and then I open the door, pull the racks out, and let the dishes air dry before putting them away.Don’t throw out your old dishtowels: I have a small stack of old, worn out dishtowels that I use for rags…wiping down the counters and the kitchen table, cleaning out cat fountains, wiping up small spills, using them to wipe my hands on when I’m cooking, etc.I’ve been drawn to pale greens lately, too. It is so soothing. Your kitchen looks great – it’s amazing how a simple change in color can change the feel of a space.I love it, but then my kitchen is green too! I love anything nature-ish in color! Those dishes are very cute and those glasses are really to die for. They’re really beautiful.GAG on the dishwasher. Why buy a dishwasher that doesn’t go the distance? When I bought mine it was hard to find one they said, that actually dries the dishes. WHAT? Not playing or wasting my money on ridiculous nonsense. Besides, there’s a peace in doing your own dishes! But the red was so cheerful; I’ll miss it.Green and white has been my favorite color combinations for nearly 50 years. It looks so clean, crisp and refreshing. My second favorite combo is green with a pale, buttery yellow. Love all that you chose from Amazon.Though I enjoyed the white decor you shared recently, I think these are even more appealing!! I have went through various colors over the years, but now I like to decorate with green. And I like how you styled and placed everything in the cabinets. So nice. You just want to look at everything.How “cool” looking. Makes me want to change out my colors in my kitchen but then I would have your red polka dot bowls/plates that you gave me. I have old corelle dishes from 20 years ago, so have begun to replace them with white dishes and I love them. Anyway just a thought to try if you have something pink around the house (a pink vase with flowers and their green stems/leaves is so fun). Or a terra cotta pot painted in pink w a pretty houseplant (I paint terra cotta pots instead of buying fancy planters and coordinate w my rooms).Your home must be well insulated therefore the little amount of dust. In construction lingo they might say it is a tight house. You are lucky because you are also probably efficiently keeping your heat and air inside too!Oh Brenda! My kitchen is white and pale sage green, even the ceiling is a very soft almost not there green..I don’t have open shelving but two cabinets are glass fronted. Green is soothing and with wood accents, cutting boards and vitage bread bowls, really makes the room…love your pinstripe curtains…. I do like your entire apartment makeover…Love your new colors.
