HayhurstCoshocton TribuneCOSHOCTON − When many people think of the Coshocton County Fair, livestock judging and showing animals is the first thing that comes to mind.While there are open classes for adults, 4-H and FFA youth get most of the focus. It takes a lot of time and work to care for their animals, with the reward being a literal payoff via the livestock sales and Sale of Champions on Thursday afternoon.While many have shown for a number of years, some are just getting started. Most of the rookies came to the fair as young kids and walked through the barns or watched the livestock shows with their parents, which encouraged them to participate. Finding siblings or cousins showing is also very common.More:Bullmania Rodeo at the Coshocton County FairStepsisters Taylor Cornelius, 13, and Cuyah Gallagher, 12, are members of Lucky Learners 4-H Club, which won a special honor for the best kept rabbit exhibit. It's the their first year in 4-H and showing at the fair."I loved rabbits and I love animals, so I decided to take one this year," Cornelius said.Siblings Charley Reed, 12, and Warren Reed, 11, and stepsister Miley Holdsworth, 10, are members of Premium Ag Kids 4-H Club. All are also in their first year of 4-H and showed rabbits. Charley said it was a lot harder than it looks."We've been wanting to get into it for awhile, but this is the year we finally did it," Charley said."I just like taking care of them a lot and cleaning up after them and everything," Miley said of how she liked preparing for the fair.Shieann Waldren is a member Classy Country Kids 4-H Club. She has shown cattle and rabbits for about eight years.Her favorite thing about the fair is "all the support you get from everyone and the way nobody is afraid to help with anything. Just the love of the community when you need something or help."Taryn Tumblin is a member of Winner 4-H Club. She has shown cattle and horses for about eight years. Especially where it comes to the horses, Tumblin said she'll give tips and advice to first-timers. She's also competed in Showman of Showmen in the past and has helped prepare the other contestants on showing horses, something they may have never done before."We're one community, so you just want to try and help everyone as much as you can. You might not do as good as the person you helped, but they're going try to help you the same," Tumblin said. "You should try to help everyone even if you may not win.
