Emergency services descended on Maple Terrace, in Shiney Row, after reports a dog had injured a man outside a property on Tuesday evening. A man, aged 54, was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries but later died. A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a huge police cordon remained in place on Wednesday as officers carried out enquiries. One resident has told how the man who died in the XL Bully attack staggered from the scene. Laura Reynolds, 24, lives on Maple Terrace where the man was left with fatal injuries to his neck. She said: "The man who was attacked was lying on the floor. He managed to get to his feet and he walked away but he fell over by the fence in front of a woman. She ran to get a cold compress to put onto the wound and she was trying her best to help him." She said there was initially one police car at the scene before the area was flooded by officers. Resident Linda Blyth, 56, said: "It is awful. It is just heart-breaking on both sides. You see it on the news where this kind of thing happens down south or abroad but never in a million years do you think it would happen here." Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said he is scared to walk his dogs whenever he sees XL Bully dogs in the area. He said he heard a "commotion" around the time the incident took place."
