Almost two decades later, the Cincinnati Bengals chose Burrow to spearhead their rebuild.When it comes time to offer advice to a fellow No. 1 overall pick, Carr is uniquely qualified.WATCH:More:The Fresno State product endured a bruising rookie campaign. Carr was sacked an NFL-record 76 times in his rookie season. Unfortunately for Carr, things didn’t get much better in the years that followed. His career in Houston was marred by sacks. He was sacked an NFL-high 49 times in 2004 and again in the subsequent season when he was sacked 68 times.“The offensive line needs to improve,” Carr fittingly said. “It’s only gonna be about what they put around him. It’s all it’s gonna be.”When Burrow walks in the door at the Bengals facility, Carr would advise the rookie quarterback to be assertive.“When you’re young you have a tendency to not be as assertive because there are older guys in the room,” Carr said. “I didn’t speak up as much as I should have. I would say do what you’re comfortable with. Obviously learn the system, ingrain yourself with the team. But the quarterback is king. That’s what you kind of have to remember because the team is only gonna go as far as you are. If you’re not comfortable with something, then you need to do it a different way.“You don’t want to come off as a jerk or a guy who comes into the room and just demands all your way. But the sooner you learn what you like and the sooner you’re comfortable and you know what you’re comfortable with in that system, get more of that.”Carr is impressed with Burrow’s quarterback ability and what he brings to the Bengals. The NFL Network analyst believed Burrow is the most NFL-ready rookie quarterback.“He’s incredibly accurate. He had a command of the LSU offense. He is almost freakishly accurate down the field. He just never misses. If he can keep that at that level, he’s gonna be a real problem,” Carr said. “He throws with great anticipation. I think that’s the one thing you can’t teach young guys. Some guys playing in the NFL still have a hard time figuring the anticipation out. He does a great job at that.”Despite not having a stellar NFL career, Carr has the brain and experience to be able to dissect the quarterback position.
