Jen Laubach gave birth to sons Maksim and Mitch alone earlier this month after husband Andre came down with a violent cough the night before she went into labor two weeks prematurely.Jen and Andre got in the car to drive to hospital. They called their primary care doctor, only for the physician to warn them that Andre’s symptoms meant he couldn’t accompany his wife, forcing her to drop him off and drive there alone.Both Jen and Andre, from Troy in Michigan, subsequently tested positive for Covid-19, forcing them to leave their newborns in a neo-natal intensive care unit for a fortnight while they recovered. The couple finally got to meet their sons last Thursday, and bring Mitch home. They hope Maksim will be able to join them by the end of the week.Recalling the distressing experience of giving birth by herself before having her babies taken off her, Jen told : ‘They basically took them away to the other side of the room right away, maybe 15 feet away from me.Sorry, this video isn't available any more.‘Started cleaning them up, the nurses were kind of… I was looking over to try and get a glimpse of them, and the nurses were kind of holding them up.’The Laubuchs, who are unsure how they caught Covid-19, have only been able to see their sons through video calling for the last fortnight.
