Use natural elements to add a touch of beach charm to your home this summer.Today I'm so happy to celebrate Summer Tablescapes with some of my blogging friends led by the fabulous Rita from Panoply! Be sure to visit the links at the bottom of this post for even more summer tablescape inspiration!For my table, I decided to go with a nautical theme! My husband has surprised me with an upcoming trip to Hawaii later this summer for my birthday so I've definitely got the beach on my mind! I also found an awesome haul of goodies at Dollar Tree a month or so ago, which sealed the deal! My beach table was decided!The place setting begins with a woven charger from HomeGoods several years ago. I then topped that with a denim blue charger plate from Dollar Tree this year. I love the ribbed edge detail and distressed blue. I will be using these again and again with my other blue and white dishes, I'm sure.Atop that, I layered a beachy dinner plate, also from Dollar Tree, and then a shabby chic style salad plate from HomeGoods. On my Instagram, I share a video with a funny story about my husband and I trying to buy those plates!And the final touch is these darling crab appetizer plates that I found at HomeGoods. I just love the little blue crabs on these plates!Some bamboo-style flatware (from Caspari), a sand-colored hemstitch linen napkin (HomeGoods), and these lovely sea glass bubble glasses from Serena &amp; Lily which I set in a wicker glass holder (from Amazon) complete the setting. (See shopping links below)Dollar Tree had these little beaded “ornaments” that I tied onto the napkins for a fun beachy accent. I also didn't have enough of the linen napkins so I added in a couple of blue-striped tea towels. I like the almost French seaside feeling they lend to the scene. I didn't have enough of those to go around so mixing seemed the way to go!I spotted these little wooden accents also at Dollar Tree and I laid them on the table for a little extra nautical charm. There was this boat and anchor! I think they'd be cute mixed into a wreath later… we'll see what I come up with…When my daughter was looking at the table with me and some of the leftover supplies I had bought she suggested that I hang something from the chandelier. And I knew she was right! That girl is such a genius!I had both these little glass jars at the Dollar Tree and had planned to use them on the tabletop but once I started working on the centerpiece (more on that in a moment), I realized there just wasn't room for them.So, we hung them!There are little succulents plus some greenery picks – some even have little seashells and seahorses!! I particularly like the little metal starfish accents hanging from the jars. These were all pieces that I found in the aisles of Dollar Tree. We added a little bit of moss to hide the stems so you didn't see them through the glass and attached a bit of twine to the metal handle (which was already on the jars).Be sure to keep your items very light and attach them securely to your chandelier to avoid any unfortunate accidents.I have been baking up a storm this summer and I knew I wanted to bake something fun for this table. I found this beautiful distressed wood bowl at a local shop called Mulberry Lane – oh my goodness, I love this shop! My husband and daughter tease me all the time because every time we drive by it, I crane my neck to peek in… not that I can see much while going 55 miles per hour but a girl can hope!That beautiful turquoise blue color and distressed loveliness – oh happy sighs – I just love this thing!So I knew I wanted to include this but wasn't sure what to put inside…And then I recalled some oyster shells that one of my husband's friends had kindly sent me! I plan to make some cute decoupaged oyster shells but haven't done that yet and my procrastination paid off because they were the perfect filler for this tray!After much debate over what to make I landed on a cake. Since this is a table for six, I decided to keep the cake on the smaller side but I wanted it to still feel special and fit the theme.The base layer is a 6-inch cake and the top is a 4-inch cake. Perfect size for a small group!For flavors, I made a vanilla cake with salted caramel filling and vanilla icing. I tinted the icing two shades of aqua and used my spatula to create a texture detail – to mimic waves.But what really makes it special are the white chocolate seashell accents! These were so simple to make thanks to silicone molds! I wanted to keep it simple by leaving them white but you really could go all out and paint them with food coloring to make them look very realistic. Living in Florida, I am drawn to anything coastal and with the Gulf of Mexico in my back yard, I can appreciate all your nautical touches. Your cake indeed captures the waves and the white chocolate accents are perfect. I often hang items from the chandelier and your Dollar Tree finds add such drama. I’m not sure our Dollar Tree is as versatile as yours as I haven’t seen the pieces you have…I’ll keep looking as new merchandise is always being added. Your wicker glass holders are wonderful. I use mine daily serving lemonade or Iced tea as it reduces the moisture on the glasses. I was fortunate to find two wicker holders for a couple of my pitchers several years ago.
