Click to followES SportThe lockdown has given many of us time to polish off odd-jobs and tie up loose ends, but finally finishing a sticker collection you started 41 years ago is among the more novel.In a haze of nostalgia inspired by a Match of the Day re-run, 52-year-old Tottenham fan John Moore ventured into his loft and plucked out a album from 1979, keen to show his daughter, Lauren, the heroes of his childhood.Little did he know that she would make it her own lockdown pursuit to seek out the final 11 stickers needed to complete his book.“He's got a fair few but this is the first one he got close to finishing,” she explained. “On the other ones he sort of filled in Spurs and then gave up.“I kept it quiet but I was worried he'd do it himself. He kept talking about it and I'd say: 'Oh no, don't, what's the point now? That's silly.'“I'd started it myself and I was worried we'd end up with doubles!”The irony of ending up over-stocked on blanks left vacant for more than four decades avoided, Lauren found many of the stickers - those of not-exactly-household-names such as Derek Hyslop of St. Mirren and Ian Bailey of Middlesbrough – surprisingly readily available on eBay or from private sellers.But with ten of the missing XI in the bag, the final sticker – Crystal Palace’s club badge – proved a little harder to come by.“There was one that was up for a bid,” she said. “There was this one other person and we just kept on bidding against each other.“I have no idea why they wanted it at exactly the same time but we ended up having a massive bidding war for it which was ridiculous.“It was going up 50p at a time for a bloody sticker but it was the last one, I needed to finish the collection, I was so close."Considering they're worth 1p, I had to pay £6.50, which doesn't sound much but if people are literally selling them for a few pence I paid a stupid amount.”Now a sports reporter for the BBC, Lauren says her dad’s hobby had a big effect on her as a child.“I had the Match Attax.
