It’s listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and is a popular spot for those who want to pay their respects to those buried there.There’s also a spectacular view from the Punchbowl Scenic Lookout.Keep in mind the somber nature of visiting the cemetery, and be respectful towards the fallen and mourners during your visit.Dole Plantation, the famous historic pineapple plantation, offers several different tours and activities, most of which cost money to participate in.However, admission to the plantation grounds and Visitor Center is completely free!If you’re just interested in seeing the plantation, learning about its history in the Visitor Center, and grabbing a Dole Whip or another pineapple treat from the café, making a stop at the Dole Plantation for a free visit is completely worth it.There are also a few free activities to participate in, like a pineapple-cutting demonstration. You’ll almost feel as if you’re in a movie!The Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail is a relatively easy, paved hike that will lead you up to the top of a mountain with a beautiful view of the beach, the mountain range on Oahu’s east side, and a lighthouse.This trail is located around a 30-minute drive away from Waikiki. There is no parking fee or entrance fee for the hike.A popular time to go on this hike is at sunrise or sunset. Make sure to bring some cash to tip your guide!If you love great views but want to avoid hiking, head to Tantalus Lookout.It’s definitely a hidden gem in Hawaii because every time I visit, there are just a few people up there.Tantalus Lookout is peaceful and tranquil and offers excellent views of the city, the ocean, and Diamond Head.The best time to visit is during lunchtime to have a picnic because you will have this whole place to yourself.Tantalus is also a great spot to enjoy the sunset, as you will see the golden hour light up the city.It’s best to arrive an hour before sunset as this is a popular time, and there are only limited parking spots.Many Oahu travelers think they must book a snorkeling tour to see turtles and fish.In reality, you don’t. In Oahu, the marine life is so abundant that no matter where you snorkel, you are bound to see marine life, and you might even get a chance to see a Hawaiian sea turtle if you’re lucky!There’s no need to pay to be stuffed into a boat and get kicked in the face by many snorkelers – all you need is snorkel gear. Check with your hotel as many offer complimentary snorkel gear for their guests.You can also pick up a cheap set of snorkeling gear from Amazon before your trip.Hanauma Bay, Waikiki Beach, and Sharks Cove are the best beaches to see marine life.Just make sure to only go into the water on the North Shore during the summer months. Going into North Shore water during the winter months is hazardous due to the high surfs.If you’re visiting Oahu during the summertime and want to see Hawaiian sea turtles, head up to the North Shore and stop at Laniakea Beach.Here, you’ll be able to see so many sea turtles relaxing or swimming. You will be shocked at how many turtles are here!Just keep in mind that sea turtles and other wildlife are protected. It’s illegal to come closer than 6 feet away from them, and touching them is also illegal (and harmful for the turtles).Make sure to keep your distance and absolutely DO NOT touch them, because this can result in a hefty fine or even jail time. More importantly, touching them can cause them stress or even harm from the bacteria on your hands, and no one wants to harm an adorable sea creature.Anytime you’re visiting a tropical island, watching the sunset on the beach is a must. Oahu is no exception!The best part is that from most beaches on the south up to the northern part of the island, you can see the sunset perfectly. So, you’ll have an endless number of beaches to choose from!Waikiki Beach and Sunset Beach on the North Shore are two of the best beaches to see the sunset.Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden spans over 400 acres and offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the island’s natural beauty.Stroll along the paved paths and admire the diverse plant species in the garden.The garden also features a tranquil lake where you can relax and enjoy stunning mountain views and a picnic with your loved ones.The park provides a perfect setting for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.You have a few options to explore. You can drive through the garden, park at the designated parking spaces, get off, walk in, and take pictures.You can also plan a lunch at dinner and enjoy the picnic tables throughout the park.This park is away from traffic and noise; you are immersed in the environment and the sounds of the nature surrounding you.Nu’uanu Pali Lookout is a scenic overlook that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the island and the Pacific Ocean.Located on Oahu’s eastern side, this scenic lookout provides stunning views of the Ko’olau Mountain Range and the Windward Coastline.This site is not only beautiful but also significant in Hawaiian history.
