Availability will be subject to supply and capacity limits at each site.The announcement marks a stark turning point from just a few weeks ago when Santa Clara County to residents, citing a vaccine shortage.Since then, the county has benefited from a federal vaccine program that has given it thousands of additional doses on top of a weekly allocation from the state. Last week, for instance, the county received an initial allocation of 300,000 doses from the federal government.Despite the increased supply, Dr. Marty Fenstersheib, Santa Clara County COVID-19 Testing and Vaccine Officer, said demand for vaccine appointments has significantly dropped within the past couple of weeks.With supply is no longer an issue, now comes the difficult part: vaccinating people who are hesitant about getting a shot or those may have barriers to access, Fenstersheib said.“Now is the time to get vaccinated,” he said in a statement. “Vaccines are absolutely critical to protecting our community, and we won’t rest until every eligible person in our community has the chance to get vaccinated.”As of Monday, 65% of Santa Clara County residents who are 16 or older have received their first dose of the vaccine and 37% are fully vaccinated, according to the county’s vaccine dashboard.The Santa Clara County clinics offering drop-in appointments include:We invite you to use our commenting platform to engage in insightful conversations about issues in our community.
