California Congresswoman Maxine Waters scolded the judge who oversaw Derek Chauvin’s trial as “way off track” for suggesting her words to Minnesota protesters could spark an appeal in the disgraced former officer’s case.“To say that I’m going to cause an appeal really is not credible and whether or not they have an appeal and whether they mention my name like the judge says, my comments don’t matter anyway,” Waters told CNN Saturday.Last week, Waters sparked outrage when she and appeared before a crowd of angry demonstrators in the days ahead of the guilty verdict against Chauvin.If Chauvin wasn’t found guilty, she told the crowd, “We’ve got to get more confrontational.”Waters’ comments might have given Chauvin grounds for an appeal, Judge Peter Cahill , adding he wished politicians would stop talking about the case.Chauvin was in the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis.Waters, who insisted to CNN that “confrontational does not mean violence,” called the judge “angry” and “frustrated.”“I think he may be frustrated with this case and how much world publicity is on it and all of that. I’ve talked with a lot of legal scholars and lawyers and of course he was way off track,” .“He knows in fact the jurors were not in the room, the jurors had an oath not to look at television, not to look at newspapers, not to engage with people on this. He knows that there was no interference with jurors,” she added.
