Three of the four charges were dropped against Ruffin in Oklahoma County District Court. But Ruffin said today wasn’t a day of justice for him.“Not happy one bit,” he said. Ruffin, 27, pleaded guilty to third-degree arson for his role in the burning of a sheriff’s department van. He maintains he didn’t set the fire. “I didn't do it at all whatsoever -- like there is video proof of people that did it,” he said. Ruffin said he spent eight days in jail and lost his job working with the mentally ill.District Attorney David Prater didn’t comment on today’s court hearing. But Ruffin said an email from Prater to Mayor David Holt calling him a “gang member” is wrong. This stopped a meeting Ruffin had planned with police Chief Wade Gourley. Just weeks prior, Ruffin took part in a roundtable with Gourley and other youths on how to bridge the gap between the Black community and police. “Having a terrorism charge on me for almost a year, like this has literally been almost a year, has been one of the hardest things that I've ever had to face,” he said.Ruffin said he’s on probation for the next three years. And during that time, he hopes to continue to be an advocate for the voiceless.
