In October, Norwalk students walked out of class and called on district leaders to do more to end bullying against minority and gay students. “This is happening,” Norwalk student Josephine Mulvihill said in October. “It's not an ‘if!’ You need to address it as though it is happening because it is!”The same students said during Monday's school board meeting district leaders are not doing enough to address bullying and exclusion. On Tuesday, Norwalk Community School District Superintendent TD Magee said in a statement, "It has become clear that listening and learning from our most vulnerable students should be a top priority."The school district listed steps it's taken this year, including the creation of a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion group, but acknowledged it needs to do more to create a less polarized district.The district’s full statement can be found here.“I definitely think that there are two completely different sides, and if you're not on the ‘right side,’ or if you don't support the right things, then you're not a good person,” Brenizer said.Magee declined an interview with KCCI.
